Let me share with you my memories from the UN Fourth World Conference on Women hosted by Beijing 20 years ago, which Voice of America recorded and aired (https://www.voanews.com/media/video/2977505.html).  To mark this conference's 20th anniversary, the UN made women's empowerment a key goal of the Sustainable Development Goals approved by UN member nations at the General Assembly meeting last month.  I was one of the advisors assisting the head of the NGO Forum, Thailand's first woman Minister Supatra Masdit, with the planning and implementation of this giant event attended by 40,000 women from every corner of the world.  It was both an exhilarating yet frustrating experience, but I was glad to have been at that historic meeting.  Maybe some of you were there as well??? -- if not physically but in spirit?
