For the Swiss business newspaper l’Agefi, I interviewed Yves van der Straaten, Secretary General and Technical Director of the Paris-based OICA (International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers). Key statements included:
- "I do not think at all that a reduction in the number of car show is an inevitable phenomenon, especially since each show has a different positioning."
- “Anyway, I don't think auto shows are doomed to die because of digital offerings: it will always be important to allow potential buyers to see, touch and smell the vehicles they are interested in”.
- “I am also of the opinion that it would have been very difficult to commit already today for a major car show in March 2021. In this context, I fully understand that the GIMS Foundation preferred to focus on the 2022 edition [and skip the 2021 edition]”.
- Regarding the "Geneva Automotive & Mobility Media Days" that Palexpo plans to organize in March 2021: "I have indeed read some information about this show in the press, but I don't know more".
