My internship experience at USPI!

This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at United Surgical Partners International (USPI) on the Supply Chain Team! During my internship, I learned about the company’s dedication and commitment to providing quality care to their patients. I gained valuable insight into the missions of USPI and Tenet, and the significant contributions the Supply Chain Team makes within the Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) and Surgical Hospitals.?
During my internship, I focused on accelerating the onboarding process to enhance value realization and operational integration for new ASCs and Surgical Hospitals. To achieve this, I created a comprehensive facility onboarding binder that identified key stakeholders, methods, and solutions to common onboarding issues. This involved reviewing policies and procedures and meeting individually with team members to understand the end-to-end onboarding process. By developing this extensive binder, I was able to reduce onboarding time, decrease customer service inquiries, and improve USPI’s overall marketability. The onboarding binder will be implemented as a training handbook at all facilities, standardizing the customer service process and ensuring a consistent onboarding experience. Furthermore, it will enhance USPI’s brand value.?
Throughout my internship, I acquired critical thinking and information synthesis skills, which I honed while working on my project and will apply in my future endeavors. Additionally, I enhanced my communication and time management skills. With only ten weeks at the company, I set aside time for coffee chats to learn more about individuals in other departments and managed deadlines to maintain accountability.??
Beyond my project, I gained exposure to the healthcare industry through the Leadership Series as part of the intern program. During the series, I heard from various speakers from different Tenet departments who shared insight into Tenet’s mission and offered valuable career advice. I also participated in social and volunteer events, connecting with fellow interns and learning more about their projects and backgrounds. I am grateful to Matthew Baril , Kendall McKenney , and the Intern Committee for their efforts in organizing an excellent and enjoyable intern program.
To begin with, I extend my gratitude to my manager, Jae Yu , for his support and guidance throughout my internship. I also want to thank Johnathan Elder , Tommy Taylor, Brent Lindeman , Aliscia Magee, Will Mercurio, Megan Mclaren, Paul Wharton , and Molly Vandenheuvel for their encouragement, patience, and mentorship. Additionally, I appreciate Eric Hiam, MBA , and Scotti Fort for organizing the Baylor Scott and White Surgical Hospital - Las Colinas site visit, where I had the opportunity to observe the daily operations of the Materials Management Department.?
