My internship experience at The Options Clearing Corporation

During the summer of my internship at the Options Clearing Corporation, the world’s largest equity derivatives clearing company, I embarked on a captivating journey filled with valuable insights and enlightening experiences. As a Business Analyst Intern within the Process Automation team, my role allowed me to delve into various Appian projects to streamline various processes for different business departments within the company.

Curiosity led me to inquire of my seasoned colleagues, "What motivates you to excel at OCC?" Their answer resonated deeply with me: "No two days are the same." And indeed, this sentiment became evident throughout my internship as I embraced the continuous stream of challenges that honed my problem-solving acumen.

One of my primary responsibilities involved ensuring the seamless execution of multiple projects and contributing to the management of process automation enhancements. This presented an exceptional opportunity to apply my change management skills, transferring the theoretical knowledge gained from Agile Project Management classes at UTD into real-world scenarios. The transition was both rewarding and enlightening, offering valuable insights into the practical application of Agile delivery methods in addressing real-life projects and complexities.

Over the course of the summer, I was exposed to various Business departments at OCC, such as legal services, market risk, and member services, where my team's expertise in process automation played a pivotal role in understanding and solving their pain points in various processes. Attending the prestigious Appian Dallas Forum during my Internship further enriched my experience, providing invaluable networking opportunities that broadened my horizons.

What truly made this internship remarkable were the intern networking events within the company. These occasions granted me the privilege of engaging in one-on-one conversations with high-ranking executives, each encounter leaving me with profound insights and wisdom.

I am forever indebted to my Manager, Steve Felix, whose guidance ensured a delicate balance between learning standard procedures and executing original ideas at OCC. My mentor, Anum Sundrani , deserves special appreciation for imparting invaluable practices and knowledge. Additionally, the unwavering support and guidance from Punit Sanghavi , a UTD alumnus and senior associate on the team, proved instrumental in my growth and development.

I wholeheartedly attribute our team's success to the remarkable collaboration among its members. Together, we delivered impeccable results that left an indelible mark on the organization. In summation, my summer internship at OCC catalyzed the application of my management and problem-solving skills, propelling both myself and the team toward resounding success. It is a chapter in my journey filled with transformative experiences, cherished memories, and lifelong lessons that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors.
