My Infosys Story

In this time & age when hopping is a norm, I recently completed nine years with Infosys. In all honesty, I ask myself why as much & as often as many of my well-meaning friends do. Happened across this milestone questionnaire that was featured in the Company's Hall of fame on my fifth service anniversary & while reading this now, I couldn’t help but smile at my own words. Even though from four years ago, this is all the re-affirmation I needed. This was & remains my #Infosys story, what’s yours?
1. What made you join Infosys?
Brand Infosys never needed an introduction. However, to this date I clearly remember the company’s pre-placement talk conducted at my B-school. A very charming recruiter who was accompanied by a couple of distinguished-looking delivery Leaders addressed us. The passion with which they spoke charged up us bunch of young guns raring to take on the World. The pitch couldn't be any more compelling, lucid & well-structured. What sealed my fate with Infosys was the utmost degree of #professionalism with which the executives carried themselves. My mind was made. If I get offered by Infosys, I’m going to take it. And I did! Yayyy :)
2. Tell us about your first day at Infosys
A bunch of new-joiners from various B-schools in the country queued up at the gate of Hyderabad office to collect their temporary I-cards. Transit from the main gate to the guest house was smooth as butter. We were carted around like royalty, with ample time to take in the lush greenery of the campus. I remember bending all the way back to catch a closer glimpse of a breathtaking waterfall hidden behind some trees, which I later discovered was the swimming pool :) The room was huge & beautifully done up with lovely rose paintings in bright red on the walls (Ah, I'm amidst a visual flashback!) For the first time, the Sardarni from a college in West India shared her living space with a Tamil-Brahmin from a college in North India. It was truly a melting pot. All of us were curious to get to know each other & completely fascinated with our new work-place. It felt like a dream come true :)
3. Your most memorable moment at Infy would be
Oh! There are plenty of them. But I think the one that stands out is when I applied to be part of Talent Acquisition through an internal job posting & got selected. Having done my MBA in Human Resource Management & Marketing, I figured I would add more value in a business enabling function. And wonder of wonders was when I learnt I would be a Campus recruiter. An incurable extrovert who lives to travel (& to eat!), during hiring season I literally live out of the suitcase; changing states every two days, relishing a variety of cuisines, not to mention the close association I share with the best in academic circles. As on date, I’ve traveled to twenty-six states and union territories put together & counting! And yes, I learnt the charming recruiter who floored me during my MBA placements is one of the oldest members of the team I eventually ended up working with & cherishing. Every day is an inspiration & paves way for newer wonderful memories.
4. Personal slogan
Live, Learn, Love, Laugh. And whatever you do, build for yourself a life less ordinary!
5. The difference between the earlier YOU & the present YOU
Well, as a person not much has changed in the awe-struck girl who had joined fresh out of her B-school. That’s the beauty of Infosys, it preserves your innocence & good spirit. Surely, the #learning has been immense. I’ve been blessed with amazing team-mates & managers. The sheer variety of challenging assignments that keep coming my way is reason enough to keep me glued & asking for more. I think Infosys has served to reinforce my belief that nothing is unachievable if you put your heart into it.
6. Message to fellow Infoscions
Just like people have good days & some not-so-good days, there will both be rosy & pale times that your immediate team, Unit and the larger Organization will go through. In the midst of this roller-coaster, if you can find even one well-founded reason for yourself (I had three – tremendous exposure, constant learning & a thoroughly professional work-ecosystem), then stay put and shine on!
