My Infosys Story

My Infosys Story

What made you join Infosys?

For over 15 years, I have been working as a recruiter for several different companies. Recruiting is the same everywhere, only the process changes. I was always searching for the one company that could offer me a stable, professional work environment and provide me with the support and consistence I so badly wanted. I was with another staffing firm when Infosys recruiter reached out to me. I immediately recognized Infosys as the company I had been looking for and when I received the offer, I did not need to think twice.

Tell us about your first day at Infosys?

Here is how it all started… I was hired and trained by Rohit Sharma, the head of Recruiting. When I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the process and the internal jargon, but my colleagues walked me through the process of hiring and introduced me to the rest of the team. I also had to wait a few days for my laptop to arrive, and once I got it, the screen was broken! (But that’s another story!! Once you survive your interaction with the global help desk, everything else is easy.) Once I was up & running, one of things that struck me was the volume of emails and the number of people on every email. I quickly learned that at Infosys, it’s not who you know, but who you CC that counts!! Getting into the flow of working at Infosys was made much easier because everyone was very friendly and almost immediately, I began to receive all of the training & support I needed to get the job done.

Your most memorable moment at Infosys would be…

Diwali. I came to the office to participate in a pot-luck for the holiday and was met by a colleague who insisted that I wear a traditional saree. I am originally from Ukraine, and the traditions of Diwali were completely unknown to me. I got all dressed up in the traditional attire and really enjoyed friendship and the meal that followed although there’s something weird about standing in a room full of people wearing someone else’s dress! It could easily have been a humiliating experience, me, a woman from Ukraine, dressed in a Saree, staring at an array of foods I couldn’t identify, music I’d never heard, smells I’d never smelled. The whole thing made my head spin. But because of the friendliness and generosity of my co-workers (and friends) I got through it all, experienced new tastes and culture and really enjoyed myself.

 Personal slogan

The best things in life don’t change

The difference between the earlier YOU & the present YOU is…

Be brave & willing to try the unknown. Jump in with both feet and learn to swim. Volunteer for something you know nothing about. Be adventurous. Joining a company that represents a culture I knew very little about, has become the most important part of my growth at Infosys. I’ve learned that you cannot grow if you stand still. I’ve become more willing to explore new ideas, new people, new food, a new culture than I was before joining.

 Message to fellow Infoscions

As I write to you during the first global pandemic in 100 years, and the social and professional disruptions it has caused, I think we should all take a moment to realize how lucky we are – to have a job, a home, and especially, our health. Even if, while you’re reading this, you are plotting your escape from home or looking for somewhere to hide from the kids – if even for a minute! And since our company’s survival depends on the survival of its clients, all of us - recruiters and HR, consultants working directly for our clients & leadership – we all need to give our best effort to serve our clients. Since I’m a recruiter, my job depends on our clients hiring, and when the weekly totals of unemployed Americans is announced on TV, I remind myself how fragile our position is. The clients, in turn, continue to do business with Infosys and so, ultimately, we can all keep the jobs we like so much.

There are countless opportunities to get involved, and there is definitely a place for everyone. You will work hard, laugh and have fun, and form treasured friendships with amazing people.

This is a beautiful piece, Alina. I am here at Infosys because of you... of your job posting in LinkedIn :) More power to you and good luck to all of us!

Hi Alina, I love this comment: "it’s not who you know, but who you CC that counts!!". I remember it was strange for me in the beginning. And it feel so normal now! :D I really enjoyed reading your story. :)
