As I approach the end of my high school years, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had participating in various Japanese speech competitions. What started as a challenge in Year 7, where I received a Highly Commended at the MLTAQ competition in 2019, has blossomed into a passion that has pushed me to achieve more than I ever imagined.
In Year 10, I placed 5th at the MLTAQ (Modern Languages Teachers' Association QLD) competition in 2022. I then came 1st Place in the MLTAQ competitions in both Year 11 (2023) and Year 12 (2024). Additionally, I was honored to achieve 2nd Place at the 53rd National Japanese Speech Competition in 2023 and 2nd Place at the UQJX Speech Competition in 2024, just yesterday.
These experiences have not only helped me hone my language skills but have also deepened my appreciation for Japanese culture. I’m grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from my teachers, peers, and the broader community. Each competition has been a stepping stone towards greater fluency and confidence, and I look forward to continuing my journey with the Japanese language.
My entry to the 53rd National Japanese Speech Competition, hosted by the The Japan Foundation, Sydney , was regarding 'The Banning of Mobile Phone Usage in Schools' and the video link can be found here.
