"My Hotel Supervisor was Very Good"

My Hotel Supervisor had Poise. Composure. As soon as they walked into their Hotel Department, they commanded attention. They were unusual … in fact exceptional … an extraordinary authority … somebody who achieved an extraordinary amount.
Working around their Hotel with a certain level of beauty. My Hotel Supervisor had a capacity for work, but they were not necessarily a popular person during their entire split shift. Not so many people could work so hard for so long. An unusual character – an uncommon type. A real Leader. Genuine and occasionally - very serious.
Arriving early, my Hotel Supervisor greeted co-workers. Reviewing the schedule at the start of the shift and speaking to the group so that we all knew what was happening. Following company guidelines and rules. Never engaging in Hotel gossip. Using an appropriate tone of voice. Never either copying others or excluding them either.
My Hotel Supervisor could mobilize their teams quickly. People leaned forward to listen. They were always listened to. Almost cruel at times, but for the good of the Department. Un-comparable in many respects – they worked both punishing and rewarding those they came into contact with.
Superior in so many respects to others. Wise. My Hotel Supervisor made a strong impression for the Hotel. Impressive. They understood all they came across during their shift. They provided Inspiration throughout their shift. They had an ability to re-see a problem and solve it.
Displaying commitment – my Hotel Supervisor was dedicated to the Hotel, Hospitality and their Profession; this dedication became contagious because of our Hotel Supervisor’s style. Hoteliers put in that extra amount themselves. Inspired by this person of unusual ability.
My Hotel Supervisor was not frightened of Difficult Issues. Emotionally Intelligent. Hard work turned briefings to reality. Creating successful Teams with people who did not necessarily even like each other. Setting aside differences in groups to achieve stunning performance. We all took personal risks for them. Feeling truly Empowered.
You were asked Tough Questions to which you told the Truth. My Hotel Supervisor did not tolerate poor conduct by anybody – including those in other departments, higher pay grades or other stakeholders. Ever. Conflicts of interest were never tolerated.
My Hotel Supervisor understood context and created a compelling point of view ... there was always a memorable tale to use. A Great Storyteller. Stories were used to get us to join in. Goals and Plans. They projected a trend for the Department. A Strong Vision. We all understood that our Strategy was just a simple pattern in the Hotel. Information was used.
My Hotel Supervisor always maintained a respectful attitude - never lashing out - even during stressful times. Always using appropriate language. Apologising for errors or misunderstandings and keeping their personal opinions private.
They arrived on time and were always prepared. Making contributions during meetings – yet enjoying other’s contributions as well. Asking considerate questions whenever they were needed. Speaking clearly in a language that was understood. Acting courteously and using good manners.
Acting ethically. My Hotel Supervisor did the “right” things at all times. They remained impartial. Reported hazards immediately. Dressed in clean appropriate clothing. Taking responsibility for every-bodies’ work and actions.
Not a regular person. But my Hotel Supervisor was remarkable. Quite outstanding. Phenomenal at times. Wonderous. If I had to describe them in just three words, I would use, My Hotel Supervisor.
