My Honest Thoughts on Freelancing
Freelance or Not?

My Honest Thoughts on Freelancing

Do you label yourself as a consultant..... freelancer.... or business??

During my journey from leaving a traditional position and starting my own consultant firm for sourcing, marketing and training, I was always hesitant on what to label myself...

Sometimes I act as a freelancer, especially when companies hire me to recruit on special projects, and most of the time I act as a consultant and create social media recruiting strategies or influencer recruiting plans around a company’s Employer Brand initiatives.

BUT I also employ freelancers and consultants who help me complete various tasks, like our social media specialist, who runs our online platforms just like a business owner...

Once I took a deep dive into research, I figured out a couple of titles that fit me best. These results showed me that I've actually held each one of these titles at different phases of my career. Here are a couple of freelance types I found:

  • Moonlighters (have 9-5 but do a little something extra on the side)
  • Contractor (project based, multiple companies)
  • Diversified Worker (mixed income, traditional and some freelance and temp)
  • Consultant (you work for one employer for a specific time)
  • FBO/Freelance Business Owner (you have 1-5 employees but you still consider yourself a freelancer)

Of course I had to create a quiz to help others figure out which of these made sense for their current lifestyle. (If you want to take a freelancer quiz to find out which category you fall under I created one here)

Ultimately, freelancing no matter what type, has it's perks (FREE-DOM being one) but there are some cons as well. For instance, feeling like you are doing everything alone, hustling to find different gigs 24/7, and no support system.

In today's climate with so many being affected by COVID19, we have seen a rise in freelancers but not a rise in training or education on how to thrive in this market. So as a true solutionist, I created two answers to not only alleviate the cons of freelancing but also give you the education you need.

The first answer being, Talent2go.io . It's a freelancer platform that's dedicated to not only helping startups and small businesses thrive and get projects done on a budget. But it pre-vets and assesses each freelancer, and you don't worry about competing with any fraudulent accounts. Talent2Go also allows you to create your own hours and work remotely while doing it. This is not the typical freelancer site! Talent2Go serves professionals and small businesses while promoting A.I. behavior analysis on every freelancing talent so that projects run smoother with the right personality types working together. Sort of like a Teamlance if you will. So far, the model works easily and is helping one startup at a time!

Answer number two, is F + F Connexion Membership. Which provides resources, referrals, and training for Freelancers. This takes away the thought of doing it alone and not knowing what to do and how to do it.

If you are currently in between jobs due to COVID19, this is an optimal time to freelance. You simply can't afford not to be multi-faceted in today's economy.
