My Graduate Internship So Far: Jack Thorpe

My Graduate Internship So Far: Jack Thorpe

Jack Thorpe tells us more about his work within the Graduate Transitions Team (GTT) in Careers & Employability, University of Liverpool

What have you been up to in your day-to-day role?

My day-to-day responsibilities include: 1-to-1 appointments with graduates, writing and sending the biweekly Your Futures Newsletters, and writing my amazing LinkedIn posts ??

Promoting internal part-time jobs at the #FeelGoodFeb part-time jobs fair.

My team ( Jessica Sanders PGDip CEAC, QCD, FHEA and Emma Ward ) supports graduates in many other ways as well such as creating careers events, presenting in modules and running skill development projects. If you’d like to book an appointment with me, you can do so?here.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

There’re two things I love most about my job; the people I work with are amazing and the variety of things I get to do (including running events, working with students and graduates, creating LinkedIn comms, and providing a recent graduate insight into our career event planning)

How have you found the transition from studying to working?

The transition out of university into the unknown can be scary (it definitely was for me) but as long as you are proactive at searching for opportunities and reach out for support (our careers team is here for graduates as well as students) then you will find yourself in a job you love in no time.

What’s one of your favourite experiences/events you have taken part in?

My favourite event since starting in my role would have to be the LinkedIn Lounge from Employability Day. This was the first event that I was leading on and it became so popular that the whole department had to come and lend a hand to support us. The feedback we received from students was amazing and showed how valuable LinkedIn is and the day was so chaotic but a pleasure to plan and run.

What are you looking forward to the rest of this year?

As a member of the GTT, I have to say that I am looking forward to our Your Future Festival which will be taking place in March. This is a careers event aimed at our graduates and will feature a great variety of events including panel talks, VIP lounges, job fairs and loads more. You can find out more about Your Future?here.

Have you got any new year’s resolutions?

My new years resolution was to be healthier and do more things that I enjoy. Basic I know, but I will be making the most of Feel Good February and all the activities that will be running to try and get myself more active and try some new things.

“Say yes to those opportunities that come your way as you never know where they will lead!”

Smashing it as always Jack! A very well-crafted reflection ??
