My Goals for 2024 (Update #9 - September)

My Goals for 2024 (Update #9 - September)

Happy September everyone! We're 75% through the year. I hope you are making progress towards your goals!

I had a busy month in September with celebrating my birthday in Napa, my brother's wedding as the best man, and my 2-year anniversary in Maui!

Continue reading below for my 9th update to my 2024 goals!

1) Personal Development Goals

For my personal development goals, I want to challenge myself to do new things and continue to grow!

a)?(BEHIND, 7,300 minutes) Exercise for 10,000 minutes on Peloton (excluding walking)

For 2024, I want to focus on more active exercising through Peloton. I set a goal of 10,000 minutes on Peloton excluding walking classes. This means that I will need to do strength training, cycling, or running for at least 30 minutes every day.

I only worked out for 500 minutes in September since I was out of town for 2 weekends and an entire week in Maui. I need to work out more over the last 3 months to catch up!

b) (Behind: 8.5 pounds) Lose 15 pounds from 188.5 lbs

In September, I started the month at 177.2 and now I'm at 180.1 lbs. The Maui trip didn't help with my weight loss at all!

I will need to work out more and eat healthier over the last 3 months to reach my goal!

c)?(BEHIND): 1 out of 10 paid coaching clients and 1 out of 4 paid speaking opportunities

For 2024, I want to double the number of paid coaching clients as well as the number of paid presentations from 2023. To help with getting these opportunities, I've been sharing weekly tips for shy introverts (more updates below).

I didn't have any speaking opportunities in September, but I'm glad to share that my coaching client started a new position!

Previous presentations:

2/8: MC for the Applied Materials Lunar New Year Festival

2/21: How to Build Confidence for Networking at San Jose State University

2/26: My Public Speaking and Content Creation journey for Theta Tau Rho Delta at University of Nevada, Reno

3/14: My Career Journey at the Piedmont Middle School Career Day

4/11: My Career Journey for the Applied Materials Momentum Fund.

6/16: Officiated my friend's wedding in San Diego

6/18: Presented on the ERG panel during New Hire orientation

8/6: My Smartsheet Journey at the Smartsheet User Group - San Francisco

8/9: Job Search Tips for the Recipes for Winning 2024 COnference

8/21: ERG panel for CITRIS students at Applied Materials

If you know of any organization that would benefit from presentations about LinkedIn, content creation, or building confidence as an introvert, let me know!

d)?ONGOING: Learn Japanese (and then another language)

In 2024, I am continuing to learn Japanese on Duolingo. I reached an 850 day streak in September!

This month, I learned words and phrases related to talking about languages, using polite language, life on a farm, using casual language, discussing fiction, talking about nature, and discussing food and drink.

2) Professional Development Goals

I want to continue to gain new skills and knowledge to grow professionally!

a)?Continue to learn in my job

I am 5 months into my new job at Applied Materials and wrapping up the fiscal year with my self-evaluation. I have learned a lot and now familiar with our various processes and getting prepared for my first phase exit review!

3) Content Creation Goals

For 2024, to be more consistent with creating content on LinkedIn, I have been posting weekly tips for shy introverts to build confidence! You will see my posts at 7AM Pacific time every Monday! Make sure to follow my hashtag #stephenhelpsyou and #shyintroverttips.

I posted about my celebrations this month as well as 3 career tips.

How was Maui? Always heard it's amazing but the wildfires there did a ton of damage.
