My Goals for 2022

My Goals for 2022

Late last year, I spent four weeks in Egypt, sailing down the Nile from Luxor to Aswan before heading to Abu Simbel by the Sudanese border then camping out in the desert of Siwa by Libya. Everywhere I traveled, I was mesmerised by the archaeological treasures, four thousand years or more old. Hieroglyphs depicted everyday scenes: people eating, falling in love, imagining paradise. And after a lifetime of seeing photos of the Great Pyramid of Giza, the sole survivor of the seven wonders of the ancient world, I thought I knew what it would be like in person. I didn't. It was all so humbling and left me with a very real sense of just how small, and alike, we all are in our grand universe.

Sometimes all we need is a change of perspective to think differently.?Standing inside the Temple of Edfu, a structure of incredible scale and detail that opened during the reign of Cleopatra VII, caused me to take a big step back and think more broadly about what I contribute to the world.?I spent time over the holiday break reflecting on my theory of change and how could I be a better friend, neighbor, partner, and citizen.

Coming into the new year rested, relaxed and focused; I landed on a few things to improve in 2022:?

  1. Be grateful.?Take time to appreciate the little things every day.?It’s too easy to get wrapped up in the big hairy issue at hand and overlook the ten other things going well.?From enjoying nature's beauty to thanking another researcher for their work, I intend to enjoy and appreciate more this year.?
  2. Take more chances.?I speak with a lot of interesting people who are doing courageous things and I ask A LOT of questions. It's inevitable as a podcaster and as a qualitative researcher. But I don’t take the same chances that other people do. I want to be less risk-adverse in 2022 and will put more of an emphasis on listening to others to fully understand what people around me are thinking and experiencing -- and pushing myself to leave my comfort zone and to take some of the same chances that they are.
  3. Be fit.?I am a better person when I feel good physically.?My commitment to exercise level ebbs and flows through the year.?I am inspired to improve here by watching Clara Tsao's commitment and dedication to exercise on Instagram – she never misses a workout.?Morning workouts are going to be an addition to my schedule in 2022.
  4. Give back by growing Web3.?I have been blessed to learn a lot about Web3 in 2021, and I am actively working to learn more.?Many people are unsure about what Web3 is and how it differs from Web 2.0, or are unsure as to why they should enter the space. In 2022, I will write more and share what I can to help others achieve success in Web3.?

My trip was illuminating in more ways than one.?My wish for all of you is what I ultimately found for myself.?Find that spark; the light inside of yourself that propels you to be better, faster and stronger… and shine bright in 2022.??
