My Gender Then And Now..

“ Yatra naryastu pujyante ramante tatra Devata, yatraitaastu na pujyante sarvaastatrafalaahkriyaah"

is an often-quoted Manu's saying. Manusmriti (3.56)” – translation of which means , 'wherever women are given their due respect, even the deities like to reside there and where they are not respected, all actions remain unfruitful'.

Sitas and Draupadis  seem to have further been cursed to have endless births with the same situation and add on tortures and harassment. One of the factors that divide the human world in all times is ‘Gender’. Irony is, in countries like India a woman’s plight is worsening as the society is moving towards civilization. If  Sita and Drapuadi had their immediate family harassing them, today’s women have another bunch at their profession, who either harass them sexually or intellectually. Her male colleagues unsecured feeling translates into intellect harassment and sexual in some cases.

In Literature of classics or mythology from any part of the world, a woman always looks after the men, the men in turn have systematically harassed her, by suppressing her talent and skills. Medea of the Greek mythology was looked down upon for turning evil when she was scorned by her lover, Jason, Draupadi is made fun off for marrying the five Pandavas and Sita for being greedy (to own the golden deer). Women are in a continuous search of their identity, which has been lost centuries ago. The act is like searching for black cat in the dark room.

It’s we who have to stand up for ourselves, by recreating a new identity than finding the lost one. At times its worth renouncing profession and marriages, which many a times gives you a reverse journey. At the end, women to catch the falling star and own a fistful of happiness, have to move on to opportunities which are in abundance in the Universe.One should remember that, we  did have Lal Ded, Meera Bai and Akkamahadevi in 12th Century, who dared to move on and create an identity for themselves.

We should also note that not all men aren’t alike; there are many out there who nurture the women in their lives to lead the families and Companies. And those few are the ones who operate from super conscious level and believe in equality. After all , Soul is supposed to be gender less!
