I LOVE the mortgage industry!
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not perfect. But I love the collaboration I'm seeing from competitors to make all of us better!
As I've been reading their new book, "Leadership Matters," I want to share with you some of the profound thoughts from it.
It starts off with one of everyone's favorite people, Barry Habib !
He says, "The job of a leader is to influence others to hopefully do good things
Here's your problem: You're too busy trying to sell to people, and you don't have any influence over anyone!
For you to lead, you have to make it about serving others, not selling to them
Stop trying to convince people of how great your company is. Stop shoving your stuff down people's throats. Show up as a leader worth following. If you do this...you'll never have to recruit or sell another day in your life.
Thank you, Barry, for this profound statement!
Then came Ginger Bell 's chapter.
On the first page, she drops this banger...
"That's what leaders do - jump in, even if you don't know the path."
Be honest, how many ideas are you sitting on right now?
How many things have you thought about doing but have yet to do?
You're not leading, you're protecting.
Leaders charge the battlefield
Too many people in our industry play it safe. They are still coaching from the same playbook they had 30 years ago. Take your accumulated wisdom and knowledge

And finally, let's talk about the incredible Laura J. Brandao ?? !
Her chapter is about "Leadership starts with me
There's no room to blame others if you want to lead.
In her chapter, she says, "A leader must be willing to do the work they asked others to do."
In our industry, I see too many managers disguised as leaders.
You're not leading people; you're managing them.
When I walk into most companies to speak, their leadership is always thrilled I'm there.
Why?
Because, and I quote, "Our people need to be doing more video."
As true as that statement is, I always ask them how much video they do. The answer, most of the time, is NONE! Because "they aren't in sales anymore."
Mortgage executive, you need to model this stuff to your people
Remember this...
You got into this business at one point to make the American Dream happen for people. Don't let those moments become transactions. You owe it to people to give them your best.
