My First Try on ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Plugin

After months of playing around with or exploring ChatGPT, I decided to give a try to ChatGPT Plus, which is available for a subscription fee of $20 per month.

I have been utilizing ChatGPT in some of my marketing tasks, such as idea generation for blogs or social media posts, grammar check, and market research. While the free version of ChatGPT is good enough to assist me in my daily tasks, subscribing to ChatGPT Plus allows me to enjoy some extra benefits that can greatly improve my productivity.

According to ChatGPT Plus, users of ChatGPT Plus can enjoy response times that are typically 2 to 10 times faster than the free version. Besides, access to ChatGPT is available even during peak times. In Malaysia, I have experienced numerous times when ChatGPT was not responding at all, especially at night.

In addition to general access and faster response times, early access to new features is also one of my main reasons for subscribing to ChatGPT Plus. One of the beta features is the third-party plugins.

First, ChatGPT Plus users will need to enable the plugins feature under the Settings window. Next, choose GPT-4 instead of GPT-3.5. Hover your mouse cursor over the GPT-4 tab and select Plugins. Then, visit the Plugin Store to download whichever plugins that you would like to explore.

A kind reminder: The plugins are provided by third-party organizations which are not controlled by OpenAI. In short, be aware of the risks, do your own research and only download trustworthy plugins.

When I visited the Plugin Store for the first time on 19 July 2023, I was surprised to find a total of 703 plugins including plugins from well-known names or companies such as Zapier, KAYAK, Expedia, and Coursera.

The first plugin that I downloaded was Image Editor. It is a plugin that can be used to resize, crop, and blur uploaded images. However, using the plugin can be a bit tricky especially for beginners since there are no clear instructions on how to use the plugin.

Users need to understand that ChatGPT is a language model that generates responses to prompts in a chat-like conversation. Hence, the key to using any ChatGPT plugin is the prompt. Users will need to instruct or ask the ChatGPT to do the required task.

Let’s take Image Editor as our example. To understand more about the plugin, visit gptstore.ai and look for Image Editor. You can find some descriptions and features of the plugin such as upload, resize, crop, blur, and rotate photos. You can also download the Plugin API Document if needed.

Now, let me show you how to use the Image Editor plugin on ChatGPT.

First, you will need to download and install the plugin from the Plugin Store. Once installed, select the plugin under the ChatGPT 4 tab. To upload an image, you will need to provide the image URL. Then, instruct ChatGPT whether you want to do resize, crop, or blur the image. In my case, I chose to resize the image to a horizontal pixel of 768.

Resize the image to horizontal pixel of 768.

Wait for a while after you have prompted ChatGPT. The plugin will do its magic and provide me with a resized image. I can then choose to save the resized image.

Feel free to explore more with Image Editor if you find it useful. Personally, Image Editor is not really a plugin that I will use often as many other tools offer simpler and more powerful features when it comes to image editing. Besides, I also find that the quality of the resized image is greatly reduced.?

I believe the Plugin Store is a great arsenal for every marketer. To utilize the arsenal well, I need to try as many reliable plugins as possible. When I find some useful plugins, I will then proceed to deep dive into them and explore how they can help me even more in marketing-related tasks.?
