What began as a redo for my business website, Deeg Consulting has now become a love affair with Gutenberg and Ultimate Blocks. Last week, I parted ways with my long time hosting company after a massive virus invasion which destroyed a new design I had completed a week earlier.
I decided to change companies, Siteground is phenomenal (I highly recommend), and used the default when setting up, which now Gutenberg on WordPress. The classic editor is now a plugin. I am using the #nosidebarchildtheme from Genesis on this new iteration of my business website. Plus, fortunately, I had just completed a week ago, thanks to Linkedin Learning four hours of learning WP 5 and Gutenberg, so my knowledge was fresh and I was ready to take the plunge and try Gutenberg on my website. I figured that trying it on my own website would be the best place to start and make mistakes along the way before using it for a client. I was pleasantly surprised by my Gutenberg experience, it was easy to use and I loved the features. I added Ultimate Blocks to get some additional features and options. I love Gutenberg and UB made my experience even better. I have included a link (not completed) of one of my favorite features the #contenttab on my News/Blog page. It has to be one of the best features in the blocks. It depends on your taste of course, but maybe it's the blogger in me, I feel like a child playing with crayola crayons and playdoh. Here is my list of favorites from Gutenberg so far. How has your experience been? Do you have any favorite features? Anything you don't like? Is it just me, or is everything easier to use? I feel like I already punched today in the face!
- Ultimate Blocks - All of it, all of the features, all
- Tab Content - Ultimate Blocks
- Styled Lists- Ultimate Blocks
- Media and Text- G Blocks
- Embeds- G Blocks (expansive options)
- Click to Tweet - great feature especially for bloggers who would like info shared often
- Drop Cap option - to change the first letter to Upper Case in a paragraph (went a bit crazy with that)
- Color - The ability to add color in places and areas we could not before. Simply amazing.
- All of these changes and features are great upgrades, relatable, beautiful as well as clean websites.
Enjoy!
