My first review meeting (an mByomer experience)
My first review meeting
It was just an hour before the usual Thursday review meeting with an IAS officer. The printing machines in the office were ceaselessly whirring. There were other sounds of my colleagues stapling papers and jamming their keyboards. But unspoken anticipation was the loudest noise.?
And everyone’s anticipation made me curious. Who is this person we were preparing to report to with much ado? My colleagues have told me so often that he is an excellent administrator. Why did my colleagues admire him?
During the meeting, I observed that he possessed certain notable qualities. They are-
Let me tell you how he used these. When our team told him about our achievements of the previous week, he nodded and appreciated us with a “Good”. He also makes sure to remember each of our names. By acknowledging us, he encourages everyone.
When someone is not on the right track while communicating something, he patiently directs them to tell him what information he needs to know.
He uses timely jokes and witty comments to talk about process gaps without belittling or blaming any particular person.?
This was one of my first experiences of a review meeting at mByom. While working with government organization's these review meetings help us forge ahead towards the vision of our work. Large scale transformation that brings local prosperity is possible because of something as simple as a review meeting.?
Do share your experiences of review meetings in the comments below.??

1 年A very simple mechanism of just sticking to "scheduled" vs "actual" is more than adequate. In case of deviation, important to understand the "why" which is in many cases not in the hands of the individual who is being reviewed - often is a dependency on someone else. But the "rhythm" of doing the review with the same frequency, at the same time week after week has something magical about it and any amount of wrong data, delayed projects etc get back on track within a month or two. What has troubled me has been my inability to impress on people the importance of the "rhythm" rather than the content of the review. The content improves in 3 reviews come what may. Happy to listen to ideas.

1 年I remember my first review meeting as well. Very similar experiences. It took me some time to gauge the usefulness of these meetings. Very very important and useful for the org.

1 年Really similar to my first review meeting! These reviews in Govt. would become even more robust if data and MIS templates are used effectively.
