I was nine years old when I got my first job. I was so excited to finally have money; I called it my allowance. I had no idea that it would shape my career path for the rest of my life. The most challenging part of my first job was getting into the factory dumpsters. I had to climb in and search for discarded copper wire. It was a dangerous task, but I was determined.
I remember the first taste of success. I felt like I had won the lottery. After a few weeks of hard work, I started to learn some valuable skills. I learned how to turn physical labor into wealth. I also learned the importance of betting on myself.?I knew that if I worked hard, I could succeed.
The most rewarding experience from my first job was the freedom and independence that I gained. I was able to go after school and on weekends. I enjoyed treasure hunting for copper wire. I was always so excited when I found something valuable.
My first job shaped my career path in a major way. After I left that job, I went on to generate $1.5 billion in revenue. I used the skills I learned from my first job to become a successful business leader. ?My first job taught me the importance of hard work and dedication. It also taught me the power of turning labor into wealth.
Since those early days over 50 years ago I have built a successful global coaching practice dedicated to showing executives how they can turn their emotional labor into career, personal and corporate success.
