My first 90 days at Liquid Web

My first 90 days at Liquid Web

Culture eats strategy for breakfast.
A phrase made famous by Peter Drucker.

First - I am far luckier than I deserve. Admitting to be simply “grateful” can diminish the fact that I have been given so much by so many that I am obligated to pay it forward every day.  For multiple reasons, gratefulness defines me. Now? I am grateful for each chance to win and every chance to fail with others. We don’t drive toward progress by accepting the status quo or just being comfortable.

Next, as I think of the leaders who have shaped my thought process and management style, I believe each and every one would agree that culture eats everything for breakfast. I’m looking at you Pat Matthews, Graham Weston, Lanham Napier, Taylor Rhodes, Jeff Cotten, Paul Bolt, Amar Patel, Carrie Wheeler, Jonathan Lui, Matt Stoyka and Andrew Jardine.

As I reflect on my first 90 days @Liquid Web, and accepting the fact that nothing is normal and won’t ever be again, I am struck by a simple truth that has been threaded through my entire professional career:

Culture is everything. You have to be better before you can do better.

We are customer centric. Each person is an example of a team player. We find a way to provide value to the community. We work to be the best version of ourselves and (daily) strengthen our culture. Yes, of course, we will fail but that will be part of the journey. Now, however, we move forward. We double down on culture.

I love what I have been asked to do at Liquid Web and I am beyond grateful to work with some badass folks. We are focused on being better. Every day. None of this is easy and we continue to be presented with many reasons to take a different path. However, the people who surround me continue to choose the tough road – even when filled with uncertainty – and we are moving forward together. We are working to become better so we can achieve more together and for others.

Reflection on my first 90-days at Liquid Web? I am humbled and now feel that wonderful pressure to be and do better every day. What’s amazing? Here, everyone else here feels the same.

What Terry Trout said, Adam Williams + efficacy. Change is hard for staff but when the "why" is understood and people feel valued, ambiguity is much more tolerable and we row the boat together better. We are glad you are at the front of the boat.
