My first 6 months working in a Tech Startup

My first 6 months working in a Tech Startup

It's Sunday, I sit at the airport in Vilnius, about to depart for Paris with a long day of travelling ahead. It won't be until the late evening when I'll reach my destination - Caen (Normandie). As usual, having my flight delayed, decided to quickly share my experience of the past 6 months. You see I just realised how much has changed in my professional life over the past half-year. After all, it is the first time I joined a tech startup on a project.

I hope you'll find this read interesting and I will do my best to make it as simple and direct as possible. For those who know me personally, I love good storytelling... ??

The Unknown

Apart from obvious, joining a startup, you must be ready for the biggest challenge - the Unknown. You see startups are driven by ideas, but most of the times those ideas are just simply bonkers. They sound great in the head, but the execution could be madness in the sense that it might just be way ahead of its times. So keeping Open Mind is a must. Venturing to uncharted territories and not being afraid to explore your imagination.

..tap into your potential.

Personal exploration

I spend my last 14 years working for established businesses, ones who had a clear definition of the market, their ideal customer and method how to offer their goods. It's rational, clear and in a way simple. But boring. That won't be the case in a Startup. You see their biggest strength is versatility. As professional you'll have to become versatile to an extent that will force you to get out of your comfort zone and tap into your Potential. You'll be surprised, how much of it you have.

Certainty

One thing is certain in a startup - nothing is. You might change the course of business direction as often as you change your t-shirt which you'll wear at work, after all its a startup, you need to be - cool. So get ready to learn as you go. As it will be your main responsibility in the job description.

...becoming a financial ninja.

Bootstrapping

If that's terminology you have never heard before, well you'll be hearing a lot of it while you're in a startup. It means - forget about a steady paycheck and be ready to manage your expenses as a true financial Ninja. It's brilliant! I never realised how much more efficient my budget can be...

Conclusion

So if having an open mind, being constantly challenged to be better then yesterday, accepting the fact you can grow in ways you're yet afraid to imagine while bootstrapping your resources sounds like fun. Take a leap of faith and go find a startup or a bunch of great people, just like I found mine at - iDenfy.
