My First 100 Days

My First 100 Days

My personal mantra has always been “why not?” For me this means standing true to my convictions and challenging the status quo. As I reflect back on my first 100 days as CEO of Novartis Oncology, I am confident that I am in the right place at the right time.  I’ve spent the last few months listening and interacting with more than a thousand associates working hard to help those living with cancer and blood disorders. The constant thread is that our teams at Novartis Oncology have a strong purpose to serve patients and are trailblazers to pioneer new solutions.

Our culture celebrates bold moves and innovation whether it is through new digital platforms or creating an approach to truly incorporating the patient perspective into clinical trials. I am filled with hope and excitement for what’s to come. My number one priority is to support and empower those at Novartis Oncology who bring their best selves to work each day to help find ways to make a meaningful difference.

We have a clear objective – to reimagine medicine for the people living with cancer and blood disorders.  We have diversity in our organization, which helps us be more powerful together and we realize that there is always a patient we need to serve.

We need to be steadfast and courageous in our pursuit to support patients, but I am not naive to the fact that there have been and will be failures. That is how we will learn and catapult the science. There is so much work to do. We need to keep asking the question "why not?"

It is indeed the true purpose of working in oncology for pharma, as you write, to tirelessly serve patients and find more and more innovative solutions that can improve people's lives who have been affected by cancer. Thank you for your inspiring words.
