My findings based on science

My findings based on science:

Music therapists are trained in many fields, including psychology, group interaction and the special needs of the elderly. They use their training as musicians, clinicians and researchers to effect changes in cognitive, physical communication, social and emotional skills.

The belief that music has healing influence is as old as the writing of Aristotle and Plato but it was developed into a degree program at Michigan State University in 1944. The American Music Therapy Association was founded in 1998 as a union of the National Association for Music Therapy.

1)It must be realized that although playing records in nursing homes is not music therapy, music can bring peace and happiness to people. Bajans are sung in temples with a view to providing a pleasant and divine atmosphere.

2)Some misconceptions about music therapy include that the patient must have some music ability to benefit from music therapy and that one particular style of music is more therapeutic than the rest.

3)Healthy individuals can use music for stress reduction as well as during physical exercise. Some students are used to having light music while studying while others switch on the television while reading.

4)  Plants respond to music, resulting in good growth and yield. Animals, especially domesticated animals like dogs and cats enjoy music provided music is played to their taste.

5) Cumulative exposure to sound at the level of 85 decibels (dB) can damage hearing. At many concerts and clubs, patrons are exposed to up to 120 dB. MP3 players and other personal stereos can produce 100 dB, if the user is turning up the volume to drown out background music.

6)To live with the time and to reap the benefits of music therapy the time has come to introduce music therapy courses in the universities that have medical schools.

Music therapy is the use of music to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of a group or individual. It employs a variety of activities, such as listening to melodies, playing an instrument, drumming, writing songs, and guided7 imagery. Music therapy is appropriate for people of all ages, whether they are virtuosos or tone deaf, struggling with illnesses or totally healthy.

Music therapy touches all aspects of the mind, body, brain and behavior. Music can provide a distraction for the mind, it can slow the rhythms of the body, and it can alter our mood, which in turn can influence behavior.

Plants respond to music, resulting in good growth and yield. I have this phenomenon in my garden.  Animals, especially domesticated animals like dogs and cats enjoy music provided music is played to their taste. I have a dog and a cat as my pets. They respond to music of their taste.

Cumulative exposure to sound at the level of 85 decibels (dB) can damage hearing.  This is very true. At many concerts and clubs, patrons are exposed to up to 120 dB. MP3 players and other personal stereos can produce 100 dB, if the user is turning up the volume to drown out background music. This is injurious to health. People can become deaf if they are exposed to loud noise for a long rime.

To live with the time and to reap the benefits of music therapy the time has come to introduce music therapy courses in the universities that have medical schools. There is a great shortage of people qualified in music therapy. This situation must be attended to immediately.
