My Field of Dreams...

My first "Photographic VisionQuest"...this was about 2 years post-divorce and I was still trying to figure out "who I was." I got this crazy idea that if I did some solo travel I'd "find myself."

I discovered that I was extremely uncomfortable in my own skin, at least for the first couple days. Around day 3 or 4, about the time I did this self-portrait, I started to settle in and enjoyed having myself as a travel partner.

I know that all sounds sorta weird.

The weirdest part is that I've been on that same journey ever since. Many more solo Photographic VisionQuests and incredible discoveries, about both myself and Life itself.

I found me, and I'm still finding me. I know; that sounds a bit crazy too. (A little crazy never hurt anyone.)

It was, however, during this first trip that I discovered how profoundly connected I am to nature. I couldn't, and still can't, ever get enough. And that's okay because there's always more to be encountered.

Nature is my sanctuary, and when I go out with a camera or journal in my hand, that's my church.

I didn't have a very good camera and had super cheap and lousy lenses, but I was still able to capture the Spirit of these moments and these places.

Along the way I learned a thing or two about "taking pictures" too. I no longer try to "take" them, but rather, I try to "make" them. Co-conspiring with Nature to be aware, alive and awake, capture the image, and share the story.

Yep....that's what I try to do.

It's all been part of my Marry YourSelf First journey, and a great journey it is: https://amzn.to/2O4AtDk
