My favourite books of 2024 (so far) ??
Back in 2022, I fell into a rabbit hole called ‘BookTok’ on tiktok and that was when my addiction to fiction began. (Yes I only read fiction, don’t come at me) I have not looked back since and my addiction has only gotten worse. I’m kidding, I love to read but my wallet? Doesn’t love it as much :)
At this point we’re half way through the year (I’m convinced that time doesn’t exist sometimes) and I wanted to share some of my favourite books I’ve read so far!

—— !!SPOILER ALERT!! ——
1. Archer’s Voice - Mia Sheridan
Okay this story was actually beautiful and it took me by surprise. I heard a lot of mixed reviews so I didn’t think I'd like it but to my surprise it was a good book. Was it the world’s best story and well written book ever? Probably not but nevertheless. We have Tate the FMC trying to overcome her trauma and we have Archer, the mute MMC that is also overcoming his trauma. I think the love they share for each other is really beautiful and the small plot twist caught me off guard.
My overall rating - 4 stars
2. Unravel Me - Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me series #2)
I had high hopes for the shatter me series and I’m happy to say that it has yet to disappoint me. In this book we find that Adam and Juliette were able to escape Warner (*swoons*) and they return to The Reestablishment where there are people just like Juliette. They introduce quite a few side characters like Kenji and he can be a breath of fresh air in all the seriousness.
I like this book a lot more than the first because it helps to change your perspective on good and bad, sometimes the villains aren’t actually bad and the “good” people surprise you by being bad and toxic. Definitely excited to continue the series (RIP bank account because it’s a total of 11 books) and I am yet to read the novellas, but I saw that you don’t have to read it to continue the series.
My overall rating - 4 stars
3. Twisted Hate - Ana Huang (Twisted series #3)
The typical no-strings-attached, enemies to lovers trope, betrayed people trying to navigate their lives and slowly open up to each other and be vulnerable. We also see josh trying to heal his friendship with Alex which is a nice side story.
The story wasn’t all that special if I’m being honest, the spice was spicy but I mean that’s pretty much all there was to it. It’s a bit toxic and I would say this is my least favourite book from the Twisted series so far.
My overall rating - 2 stars

4. Powerless - Lauren Roberts
In this world, you have the Elite and you have the Ordinary. Paedyn is an Ordinary and Prince Kai has spent his whole life hunting people like her. You have all these young elites (and Pae) selected to take part in a tournament of honour, the ‘Purging Trials’ and basically kill everyone to win.
This book…. My gosh did it devastate me. First of all the story was so well-written, the characters were so captivating and the tension+banter??? chef’s kiss. I love that there is so much tension between Pae and Kai but nothing actually happens. I was so heartbroken at the end and it just left me broken but also wanting for more. This book threw me into a huge reading slump, I just could not and would not pick up another book to read after this. I wasn’t ready to let go of the story and the characters.
This is a major recommendation to all the fantasy and romantasy lovers out there.
My overall rating - 5 stars (but in reality like a million stars)
5. The Serpent and the Wings of Night - Carissa Broadbent
Oraya is just a human girl living with the Vampire king Vincent who adapted her in a world full of predators. She is to take part in the Kejari - a tournament held by the Goddess of Death. Can a mere human not only survive but win this tournament full of vicious warriors from all three houses? Will she make it out alive? She is forced to make an alliance with Raihn and she can’t help but be drawn to him, despite everything Vincent has taught her about letting her guard down.
Again gosh darn this bloody book!!!!! It really did a number on me and I was devastated once again. The father-daughter relationship that is rocky but beautiful at the same time, the intense tournament that has you on edge, and the tension and romance between two enemies. I cried towards the end of the book because I was so heartbroken and I personally felt so betrayed.. I just had a feeling that a betrayal was on it's way but never did I suspect what actually happens. I’m also a bit disappointed in Oraya's decision that led to all the chaos but oh well. I’m hoping for revenge in the second book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
This is also a major recommendation because it was SO GOOD!
My overall rating - 5 stars (again a million stars)
Well there you have it, the books I’ve read so far and my thoughts on it. If I’m being really honest, I haven’t read nearly as many books as I would’ve liked to so far. My 2024 reading challenge is to ready 20 books this year, and I’m 4 books behind. I blame some of the books for putting me in a reading slump but also the fact that life got in the way and I didn’t really have the time or energy to invest in reading. However, I think I’m slowly picking it up and getting my groove back in reading at a comfortable pace. I will never understand how people finish like 2-3 books in a week but I am in awe of them.
Here's a list of books I'm hoping to read in the upcoming weeks;
Please share your recommendations and the books you have read so far this year or the books you're hoping to read in the comments!
Thank you for reading! ?
