My Favourite Blogs

One of the things I love most about the testing community is the vast amounts of high quality content being produced by testers all over the world. It’s great! I, quite simple, do not have time to read all the articles I’d like to read but I try to read as many as I can. I love learning about new tools, exploring interesting theories and just simply reading about what my fellow testers are up to.

Recently I was asked by someone, right at the start of their testing journey, if there were any good places to find articles on testing, the answer was unequivocally “Yes!”. After reeling off a few websites I regularly use I thought I’d write a short blog post detailing some of the sites I like to use when finding good articles to read. so here it is, in no particular order, some of my favourite places to find articles.

TestProject

The TestProject Blog is a multi purpose blog containing posts about the latest automation tools and frameworks as well as cutting edge theories, tips and guides. One of the things I like most about the TestProject blog is that it’s full of blogs from seasoned authors such as Andrew Knight (The Automation Panda) and many first time authors. This means you get a real insight to what testers from across the world are working on and interested in. The TestProject blog currently has over 550 articles with more added every week and it’s a great place for new and experienced testers to explore.

filiphric

Ok, so this one is a little more specific than the last one but Filip Hric’s blog is great. As a cypress Ambassador Filip blogs predominantly about Cypress.io but I think he explores areas of the tool and specific use cases I haven’t seen others writing about. Filip’s blog is super useful for testers and developers who are new to cypress with posts covering the basics but it’s also has some must read articles for the more experienced cypress user where Filip explores some of the lesser used commands and provides his tips for improving your automated tests.

LambdaTest

Like TestProject, LambdaTest contains a host of articles from many different contributers. Predominantly focused on UI testing the LambdaTest blog is a great places to find Selenium tips and tricks as well as guides on DevOps, CICD and web development. The blog contains some awesome beginners guides so it’s a great place to look if you’re wanting to learn how to get started with Selenium and cypress or want to learn about a specific framework. There are over 700 articles split into different categories so plenty to get through.

Gameconductor

Yep, this one is niche. I must confess, I know absolutely nothing about automation testing for games, but that’s one of the reasons I enjoy this blog. Everything I read is new to me. So ok, I don’t understand everything in the posts but that didn’t stop me enjoying them. I’d love more people to read and enjoy these posts as much as I do. At the moment there are not a huge number of posts there currently but I always keep an eye out on this one.

Beth Marshall

The tagline for Beth’s blog is ‘Stories from the Front Line’ and that’s exactly what I like about it. Beth’s chatty tone to her blog posts makes them really approachable and just plain fun to read. Beth draws from her daily experiences to write inciteful and interesting posts commenting on the current state of the software testing industry and giving sound advice to aspiring testers. Some of Beth’s posts are also accompanied by a video companion for testers who wish to follow along.

Marie Drake

Time for another personal blog now. This time it’s Marie Drake. Marie’s blog is made up of some superb tutorials on API testing, Accessibility, performance and various Cypress topics as well as some more general thoughts on testing. Marie’s ‘Month in Review’ posts are a great way of keeping up to speed with what she’s currently working on and contain loads of great content that I think many testers will resonate with. One thing I love about this blog is the reviews and tutorials based on tools Marie has recently used during her work which can be super useful for other testers thinking of using the same tools at their companies. Marie’s blogs always seem well researched so go check them out.

Giridhar Rajkumar

Ok so I realise, I’ve included 3 cypress Ambassadors in this list, which was completely unintentional. I was also only going to mention 5 blogs but here I am still writing, now on my 7th mention. In this blog Giridhar’s experience shines through. His passion for tech lends itself to some awesome blog posts and technical tutorials. Giri’s post on behaviour driven development (BDD) in particular stand out but there is so much other great stuff here too. Be sure to check out Giridhar’s podcast “Testing Paradise” too as there are some great interviews which are seriously worth a listen.

So, before I wrap this up (believe me I could keep going) I wanted to take a moment to mention 2 more testers, this time not for their personal blog but for their meticulous curation of the week’s best testing content. Dawid Dylowicz (https://softwaretestingweekly.com/) & Matt Hutchinson (https://blog.testingcurator.com/)?do such an awesome job finding great testing blog posts from all over the web and putting it in one (or two) handy place(s). If you’re unsure of where to look for great testing content then please check out what these guys are doing, it genuinely is the best place to start.

I probably need to stop writing so let me leave it here. I’d love to hear what you think of these blogs and, of course, any other great blogs you’ve discovered.

Anyway, happy testing and keep producing testing content.
