My Favorite Question...how to get more views and followers...

Hands down the most common question I get as a YouTube/video consultant is, "how do I get more views and followers?"

Over the last few years of being a fulltime YouTuber racking up over 370k personal subs and 115 Million views*, I have learned a lot of tricks and tactics to getting more views, subscribers and business. Today I am going to tell you what you can do right now and into 2020 to become successful with online video. *Soft flex for credibility ;)

I share this information in one form or another literally every day...

...and here is what typically happens...

Almost everyone who is interested will read or listen to what I have to say... but most people don't act upon the information. It is almost as if they are disappointed that it is so easy so they don't trust that the info is legit.

Those who take action get results.

Okay, here we go.

Pre-film

  • Pick a sub niche in a niche that you can create videos you are passionate about
  • Do keyword research so you know what people are searching for and that will trigger organic traffic
  • Create your first 20 video titles based on your keyword research
  • Create a simple show format based on education, enlightenment or entertainment

Filming

  • Engage your audience within your videos, ask them questions, mention their comments
  • Be vulnerable, but certain. Let them in to your outer walls, but maintain the leadership position
  • Mention your other content to get them to binge your videos.
  • Be human. People come to social media for a human experience.
  • Make your content easy to understand.
  • DELIVER VALUE

Post-Filming

  • Edit your video for pacing and engagement. Watch larger competitive channels for ideas around flow.
  • SEO your content. Use the same keywords from your titles and niche in your video descriptions. Do the work, there are no shortcuts here.
  • Thumbnail, Thumbnail, Thumbnail. Create a highly engaging thumbnail that gets your audience to want to click the play button.
  • Utilize cards, end screens, playlists, and your channel homepage to optimize your channel or profile.
  • Engage with your audience. Write back to your comments and build relationships with your followers. They need to know you care about them before they will care about you.
  • Distribute to your lists or social followings. This is not super important if you don't have one, but can help if you do.

Pro tips

  • Stay consistent in style, thumbnail design, release days, video length etc.
  • Be willing to put in the time.
  • I typically encourage a 3 video/week launch strategy to fire up the algorithm and get some organic traffic quickly. Then work your way into a release schedule that works for you as you grow.
  • As you grow you will have more flexibility in what you create and how you create it, but to launch you need a strategy.
  • After your first 20 videos, either continue creating content in the same sub niche or choose a different sub niche within your main niche.

The difference between the successful and unsuccessful in social media almost always comes down to who is willing to do the work and improve with every post.

Mic drop! Or would it be a button drop? Solid points, thank you for sharing. We're constantly trying new things on our channel and have nothing we would call success, but we do have insight from the experience. What you've shared mirrors the lessons we are noting and working through.?
