My Favorite Kurt Cobain Quotes
Kurt Cobain would have turned 51 on February 20th. I turn 51 later this year as well. Maybe it's that we were both the same age. Maybe it's that we both struggled to figure out where we belonged. Maybe it's just simply that he created music that spoke to me. Unfortunately for all of us, Kurt wasn't able to find a place where he felt comfortable. Imagine the music he would have created if he lived to see his 51st birthday later this month.
Kurt and his music recently came back into my life. It started when I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit coming out of my teenage daughter's bedroom. As I stood in the doorway, watching her take in the music like I had done 25 years earlier, I became reawakened to the music that had such an impact on me.
As a lover of quotes, the following are my favorite from Kurt Cobain:
"Holding my baby is the best drug in the world."
"I was tired of pretending that I was someone else just to get along with people, just for the sake of having friendships."
"I would really like to get rid of the homophobes, sexists and racists in our audience. I know they're out there and it really bothers me."
"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than lvoed for who I am not."
"If any of you, in any way, hate homosexuals, people of a different color or women please do this one favor for us - leave us the fuck alone."
"If it's illegal to rock and roll, throw my ass in jail!"
"If you're a really mean person you're going to come back as a fly and eat poop."
"It's better to burn out than fade away."
"The duty of youth is to challenge corruption."
"The problem with groups who deal with rape is that they try to educate women about how to defend themselves. What really needs to be done is teaching men not to rape."
"The worst crime is faking it."
"Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are."
