This is the 5th year of my 'Yearly Favorite Books' series on LinkedIn.
A series that I love to curate every December because it gives me the chance to revisit the books, read the first pages that I turn into a personal diary, and sometimes connect with the authors.
This year I read 33 books, 3 times more than I read in 2023.
In 2022, we moved to NYC and last year, I struggled to find a new rhythm for morning book routines.
I was able to settle and read more in 2024 despite many concerning moments related to the health of loved ones.
I’ve sorted the list by my reading order, not the priority order. Thanks to all the authors for accompanying my morning coffee sessions and helping me sail through the year.
- Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. I read this book three times — in 2018, 2022, and 2024. I gifted it to so many friends. If there is one book you'll pick from this list, read Flow and let me know what you think!
- Outlive: The Science & Art of Longevity by
Peter Attia
: I was slow on the first chapters as they were too scientific for me. I am quite disciplined and conscious about health, nutrition, and sports. But I changed a lot of things in my life routine after reading this book.
- Creativity for Sale by
Radim Malinic ??
: I met Radim after reading his book on branding many years ago, and we became friends. This book offers great practical advice, especially for people in the creative industries.
- No Bullsh*t Strategy by
Alex M H Smith
: I must admit that I was negatively biased by the book’s name. Hard to explain the reasons. I have been doing strategy for many years, and I got a lot of useful information from this small, nice book. I also had a lot of fun reading it.
- Build Like a Woman by
Kathleen Griffith
: This year we started exchanging books with my friend
Ayca Acun
, and she gave this book to me. I avoid buying gender-focused books, but I am so glad I read Kathleen’s book. It gave me a fresh perspective on a lot of topics through her blueprint for women entrepreneurs.
- Thrive: Maximizing Well-Being in the Age of AI by
Ravi Bapna
and
Anindya Ghose
: First and foremost, the first book by Anindya (Tap on Mobile Economy) was on one of my yearly favorites list many years ago. This book also deserves to be on this year’s list if you are looking for a solid book on AI, technology, and personal health.
- Built to Move by
Kelly Starrett
and
Juliet Starrett
: I train almost every day since college. Lately, I am obsessed with understanding mobility better as I am dealing with spine issues. I revised a lot of things in my physical training routine after reading this book. Do you sit on the floor everyday? :)
- The Win Without Pitching Manifesto by
Blair Enns
: I am a fan of the 2Bobs podcast by
Blair Enns
and
David C. Baker
. If you own a creative or consulting business, please go ahead and read this book. It was so helpful for me even on year 7 of my business. Thank you, Blair.
- Understanding Michael Porter by Joan Magretta : A nice and compact analysis of Michael Porter’s theories. The book distills complex concepts into actionable insights on strategy.
- The Boutique: How to Start, Scale, and Sell a Professional Services Firm by
Greg Alexander
: You can’t easily find books on creating and growing boutique services firms. I own one and I wish I had read this book right after it was published 4 years ago. So helpful. Thank you, Alexander.
- Bulletproof Problem Solving by
Charles Conn
and
Robert McLean
: If you want to read a book that teaches structured problem-solving techniques, read this. The methods can be applied to both personal and professional challenges.
- The Data Deluge by
Arun C Kumar
: This is a highly recommended book from one of my podcast guests,
Tom Denford
. I finished it in less than 3 days as it is an area that I am quite interested in as a brand marketer. If you do marketing and media planning, this is a must-read.
I am about to finish my 34th book and I am looking forward to hearing new suggestions.
What is one book you’d advise me to read in 2025?
Happy Reading. Happy New Year.

2 个月Good Strategy, Bad Strategy, if you haven’t read it already. It’s not a recent one but I really liked it. I think that’s the OG No Bullshit Strategy. I’m intrigued by Build Like a Woman. I also avoid gender-focused approaches but I’m beginning to think there might be something there after all.

2 个月Thank you Itir Eraslan for sharing your positive vibes in 2024. I've been recommending 'Courage to be Disliked' and 'Unreasonable Hospitality' as two books that stood out for me recently. Also, I'm re-reading 'Kitchen Confidential' again for the pure genius of AB's writing.
