My Fascination with Leadership

My Fascination with Leadership

I have always been fascinated with leadership.

It must be because I grew up seeing it in different ways.

My dad running his own business and seeing him lead a group of different people and I find that it was always easy for him to get people to do things for him, and he was always with them at the beginning when they were going to the client's houses for his business was servicing residences and offices alike.

My mom also being a self-made entrepreneur who was able to run her small business for almost three decades now. Her leadership style is different, strict yet caring, thrifty with cost but generous with people in small ways.

My brother also a leader in his own way, just being an extremely sociable, caring and amiable guy to be around.

When I started in the corporate world, I was all the more drawn into a more formal style of leadership, exposed to training and developing leaders as well as being part of a team who designs courses for both leaders and managers.

I find that leaders are built differently, they come in all shapes and sizes, but what sets some leaders apart is heart.

A heart that understands risk, and takes them.

A heart that is compelled by an enviable vision and is fueled by this relentless energy to pursue that vision, and it is this truly organic energy that brings people with them, for they believe what the leader believes, and helps the leader accomplish them.

A heart that touches people in a way that does not require force because they touch their core, and therefore, make them leaders themselves.

A heart that is tough amidst competition, amidst tragedy, calamities, economic downturns and all different kinds of challenges that intend to bring them down, but a true leader rises above, always above.

A heart that is sincere with people. A sincerity that is never self-serving but a sincerity that moves. Moves people towards places they would never have otherwise gone to without the leader's influence.

A heart that sees people first, and work second.

A heart that cares - cares for people's wellbeing and is always able to balance humanity with business.

A heart that gives more than what is expected for the leader knows that each extra hour spent, each extra effort that is exerted will lead to an ultimate end, and that end is the meaning in itself.

And I continue to be fascinated by leadership, for encountering great leaders with a lot of heart is always an unforgettable experience, something to truly cherish and remember for years to come.

I can only hope that one day, this fascination with leadership will eventually guide me to have that leader's heart aimed at creating more leaders with the same heart for leadership that moves mountains, breaks barriers and truly cares for others, which is a meaningful thing to do, in and of itself.
