My Farewell - Down Memory Lane

My Farewell - Down Memory Lane

29 March 2022 is a significant day for me, not only because Singapore will be easing pandemic-related restrictions after over 2 years. It is also the day I will close a thrilling chapter of my career, supporting the growth of the robotics industry in some of the most dynamic roles anyone could ever wish for.?

From partnering with giants to building and growing startups that push the envelope of innovation, I’ve had the special privilege of making a difference by constantly immersing myself in worlds that were new to me.?

When I started my career in government, the National Robotics Program was just launched with a strong productivity agenda, making robotics a sensational topic that influenced every Industry Transformation Map. As a law graduate turned public servant, it was exciting to play a hand in shaping groundbreaking outcomes for technology owners, system integrators and early adopters of these technologies. But I soon realised that creating good jobs is not about productivity, it’s about people.??

And so I never looked back when I was asked to join PBA after my secondment, because this fast-growing technology company had the agility, leadership and foresight to build an independent training academy poised to provide aspiring roboticists a hands-on experience they could not get elsewhere.?

They say purpose is a source of relentless energy and unlike a mission, which has a destination, purpose is enduring - it keeps unfolding and never ends.
This perfectly describes my job.

4.5+ years later, the goal of uplifting people into meaningful future-ready careers is still my source of relentless energy.?

I know we make a difference because we hear it from the people and organisations we serve, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work with genuine difference makers whose friendship I will always cherish because they never shy away from telling me what I need to hear. To my colleagues, ex-colleagues, trainees and partners who are reading this, working with all of you has been one of the greatest joys of my life because it almost never felt like work. Thank you for that gift.

So why move?

PBA D&D, Robot built in RACE, an entirely fruit-based birthday "cake"? made by my lovely colleagues who know about my plant-based diet, a photo with the inspiring Dr Vivienne Ming at the Singularity University Summit in Thailand, and my daughter sneaking up on me to grab lunch on a work day

Because my purpose now draws me towards a new adventure, and I couldn’t be happier to entrust PBA to the leaders we’ve grown.

As Emma Thompson said in Nanny Mcphee, “When you want me, but no longer need me, then I have to go.

To those of you who've been part of my journey, I will be rooting for you to succeed. I look forward to continue impacting the world in a game-changing space within the technology industry that I’m incredibly passionate about. Can’t wait to show you more!
