My Experiments With Learnings...

Learning is a never-ending process, and it has been a top priority for me all the time. The learning, for some, would be the formal education that one seeks sitting in a classroom, attending classes, completing the assignment, passing grade after grade, and finally graduating from school and college. I feel that to be a very narrow-minded approach to looking at the learning process.

?

Learning for me is something that a curious mind explores about almost anything and everything around and gains an understanding of it. Learning for me is a continual, gradual, and unending process that, if nurtured well, could help you gain knowledge in bits and pieces every day, making you a better person than you were yesterday. You do not need a giant leap to change the world within you… All it takes is a small step at a time.

?

Speaking of taking small steps, I would speak about my current streak of gaining certifications to better my knowledge in the ServiceNow domain. I joined CloudGo is now Veracity in May 2021 and I will be shortly completing two years of working in my current role as a ‘Talent Acquisition Consultant’. I was introduced to #ServiceNow technology when I joined CloudGo and it has amazed me since then.

?

As a Talent Acquisition Consultant, my daily job was to interview ServiceNow professionals for the initial #HR interview, understanding their experience and guiding them through the hiring process. As the discussions with the ServiceNow professionals undergo, they would speak about numerous things that they have done or are currently working on as a part of their job. During such interactions, I got familiar with several terminologies, Certified System Administrator, ServiceNow Developer, Functional Consultant, Solution Consultant, Now Platform, Service Portal, Service Catalogues, ITSM, ITBM, ITOM, Discovery, Event Management, HRSD, roles, users, groups, client scripts, server scripts, business rules, ACLs, notifications, inbound and outbound actions, script includes, UI actions, UI policies, and the list just goes on… I could go on adding hundreds of such terminologies that are part of any ServiceNow professionals' daily job. I always wondered what these terminologies would mean and it piqued my interest in the ServiceNow domain to the extent that I completed the ‘Certified System Administrator’ mainline certification, and I never looked back. The current tally of my achievements in ServiceNow learning is something like this – 1 mainline certification, 5 micro-certifications, 66 badges, and 3 more certifications are in progress. I will certainly not say that I am an expert in ServiceNow as that would be an exaggeration and I know it’s still a long way to go in achieving more. However, I must admit that my ServiceNow knowledge has increased after completing the #CSA certification, and it is at a higher level than when I started two years back.

?

The recent badge I earned was by completing ServiceNow’s ‘Business Process Consulting’ course and the ‘Automated Test Framework’ micro-certification will be completed soon. These certifications and learnings certainly give me a better edge in sourcing more suitable candidates for my organisation.

?

The other way of learning for me is reading books and penning down some of the excerpts from these books that touch my mind. With more than 2000 books in my collection, having read almost all of them, I keep adding 15-20 books to my collection every month. I make sure every day that I would read a few pages before I go to bed. I have spent many nights, staying up and finishing reading books. It gives me satisfaction the moment I finish reading a book and I am a bit restless until I grab the next one, ready to be finished reading soon…

?

Apart from the certifications and books, attending webinars, watching YouTube videos, and reading professional blogs are some of the other things I engage myself with, along with physical activities such as trekking and hiking, playing cricket, and cycling that keep me going… You need a healthy physique with a curious and nurtured mind to be successful in your endeavors. Every small thing accomplished is a success for me and I do not look for gigantic leaps at all. Being able to interact with candidates daily and conducting 4-5 interviews in a day, moving a couple of candidates to the next level, rolling that one offer to the candidate, seeing your candidates join, hearing a word of appreciation from the leadership team for the employee you have hired are all small accomplishments that give me a sense of pride. It gives me a push to keep achieving more and I will keep doing my job in my best capacity to keep the good work going on…
