My experiment with Substack

I am not happy with how Medium has served me recently. I have a great number of (10,000) people following me and it is growing faster and faster. But the number of article views through Medium continues to drop. While the number of views originating from outside Medium rises.

I know, the drop in views can mean people aren’t that interested in the articles anymore. I am realistic enough to see this as an option. But how can it be that the number of followers grows almost exponentially simultaneously?

On top of that, I am unhappy with how limited I am in reaching out to followers and e-mail subscribers. Medium is lagging compared to the competition.

This is why I decided to open a Substack publication:

From now on, I will publish on both Substack and Medium. My aim is to grow the Substack publication while I will continue to post weekly articles on Medium. My Substack publication may have more content.

Substack has other great options too, but I refrain from promising too much on that front. However, they are very appealing indeed.

You are reading this through my LinkedIn publication. You may wonder what I do with this one. Well, I continue to use it to publish my #thowbackthursday articles. However, my new content is on Substack as it used to be on Medium. I’d be happy if you subscribe to my Substack publication.

I don't know what the future brings. Will Medium make a triumphant return? I doubt it. Will LinkedIn grow to be a serious contender? Maybe. But right now, Substack is my best choice.
