My experience with ITIL? 4 Strategist Direct, Plan, and Improve Certification | with 9 Tips

I recently completed the ITIL? 4 Strategist Direct, Plan, and Improve Certification and it was an amazing learning experience. I wanted to share my experience with this certification as it is valuable for anyone looking to move up within their organization and become a more impactful team member. This certification is for those who want to develop their skills in service strategy and service delivery, allowing them to understand how to successfully implement changes and shifts in their organization. More beneficial for those who are in a similar role but there are no restrictions, and anyone with ITIL foundation certification can enrol for this certificate.

When I enrolled for this certification, I realized that not a lot of information is available on the internet and if you Google it, you may see lots of ads of the institutes but not much experience sharing or tips.

So I am sharing some important points so that you can get some insights before you enrol for the training and certification:

1. Unlike other certifications, you may not find many sample questions on any website or on learning platform like Udemy. You will find a lot of ITIL foundation questions but here, the only source is Axelos.

2. Unlike other certifications, the chances that you will get the repeat questions from sample questions is 5 – 7%

3. The course (Actual textbook) is based on a case study where an organization is planning to expand its car hire business and there are characters with titles like CIO, Regional manager, Business Analyst & more planning the expansion while prioritizing the digital transformation.

4. There are six major topics that you will learn in this course –

a.   Strategy & Direction

b.   Assessment & Planning

c.    Measurement & Reporting

d.   Continual Improvement

e.   Communication & Organizational change management

f.    Developing a service value stream

5.  Plan to spend 2-3 hours per day for a week to go through this course including both videos and textbook. You may join an in-person training but make sure you prepare well before the examination. Practice sample questions from Axelos 2-3 times and make sure to complete them within 60 minutes.

6.  There will be 40 multiple-choice questions in the exam mostly scenario based and the passing score is 70%. The exam is proctor based with guidelines, so make sure you are aware of the guidelines like making your bookshelf etc.

7.  In many scenarios you may think that you know the answer but remember the answer should be based on ITIL practices for example :

“An organizational change has resulted in many employees being unhappy with their changed roles. The project team had a party to celebrate the success of the change, and this caused the employees to be even more unhappy. Which communication principle should have been followed to avoid this happening?”

8.  You will learn a lot about measurements and reporting with the concepts like Purpose, Objectives, Indicators and Metrics. At what level of the organization what kind of Metrics should be used.

9.   If you ae already in an IT management role you will relate a lot and will be able to grasp and visualize the concepts. If you are in the early stage of your career try to read as many related case studies as you can.

All in all, ITIL 4 Strategist Direct, Plan, and Improve Certification is a great way to improve your skills and gain a better understanding of the ITIL 4 Framework. It provides the necessary knowledge to help you plan, implement, and manage IT service delivery and provides practical advice on how to improve your IT services.

You will learn a lot about continuous service improvement and the right and balanced ways to measure performance, many concepts are complementing Agile methodologies.

With the right preparation, you can pass the exam and become a certified ITIL 4 Strategist.
