My Experience at CFTB
During my time as a Computer Technician at Computers for the Blind, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a truly impactful and rewarding experience. This organization is dedicated to providing technology support and solutions for visually impaired individuals, empowering them with better access to computers and digital resources. The mission resonated deeply with me, as it combined my passion for technology with a meaningful cause.
In my role, I was responsible for diagnosing and fixing hardware issues in various computer systems, ensuring that each component was restored to optimal functionality. This included replacing defective parts and conducting thorough testing and troubleshooting of intricate hardware elements such as keyboards, ports, power systems, and cooling fans. Each task presented unique challenges and learning opportunities, allowing me to hone my technical skills in a real-world setting.
One of the most significant technical skills I developed was proficiency in hardware diagnostics and repair. Prior to this internship, my experience with computer hardware was limited to basic troubleshooting. However, the hands-on nature of the role required me to quickly adapt and expand my knowledge. I learned to methodically identify issues, source and replace faulty components, and verify the integrity of the repairs through rigorous testing. This experience not only enhanced my technical acumen but also improved my problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
It also taught me important lessons about teamwork and time management. Our team faced the significant task of preparing 300 computers for a conference within a tight two-week deadline. Through effective communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to our goal, we successfully met the deadline. This experience highlighted the importance of working cohesively as a team and managing time efficiently, especially in high-pressure situations.

This experience has reinforced my passion for technology and my commitment to using my skills to create positive change in the world.
