My Experience as a Business Analyst Intern at BCBSTX

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with Blue Cross Blue Shield in Richardson, Texas. With less than two weeks left before I finish and prepare for the semester ahead, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what I have learned and accomplished throughout this enriching experience.

Working as part of the Program Office, I had the unique position of observing a bird's-eye view of IT development. This allowed me to see how scope, technology, and testing teams work in sync within large-scale enterprise initiatives. Within this context, my primary project was to create a comprehensive dashboard to track high-level defects that appeared during testing, utilizing data extracted from JIRA. By analyzing these findings, a clearer picture of program health could be gauged in conjunction with other key metrics. As this was my first experience with JIRA and Agile methodologies, I dedicated myself to self-learning through various online courses and proactively sought advice from anyone who could offer insights. Additionally, I gained exposure to several other areas, including contract and vendor management, sprint planning, and compliance operations.

This multifaceted perspective taught me the importance of aligning business objectives with a technical field such as IT to ensure the success of any enterprise effort. Outside of my learning process, I had the pleasure of connecting with my peers in various ways. The intern program included group conversations with senior leaders, engaging volunteering events, and numerous intern networking opportunities. These interactions allowed me to explore my curiosity in different areas of the company and build lasting relationships. I was fortunate to network and engage with a wide array of interns and coworkers, each contributing to my growth and understanding.

Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my manager, Phu H. , the Program Office team, and the new graduates who have been incredibly welcoming. The support and guidance I have received from them have been instrumental in my professional development, and I have gained considerable knowledge from their mentorship. #UTDBSITS #UTDBSCISTech #JSOMINTERN #JSOM
