My Entrepreneur Success Formula

My Entrepreneur Success Formula

I love business and entrepreneurship - for me, it’s one of the most respectable and fulfilling pursuits anyone can do in this life.

It’s where I learned leadership, commitment, and passion. I discovered a lot about myself that I wouldn’t ever have found anywhere else; it’s also how I connect with all kinds of people!

Unfortunately, I see a lot of people who try out entrepreneurship and don’t achieve the results they want. They flounder and never quite reach what they set their hearts on doing.

Now I’m at this point in my business pursuits where I’ve achieved great success and accomplished so many goals I’ve set out for myself. Of course, I’m constantly growing and learning and setting new objectives; but I’m happy to say I love where I am now.

That’s why I’m confident enough to share with you my secrets for success in entrepreneurship. These are the lessons I’ve learned through so many years of experience, with all my failures and achievements!

So I’m going to give you what I think are the three solid foundations for success. I believe so much in these because they’ve worked really well for me and so many successful people I know.

Here are the three key steps that make up my formula for entrepreneurship:

1) Try, try, and try again.

I have a really cool analogy for this, so stay with me. I love running. I try to run every day as much as my schedule allows and go on marathons regularly.

So I’ve tried a couple of running shoes, and it took a lot of tries to find the exact shoes I want. I knew I wouldn’t be able to perform my best without finding what works for me.

With each pair of shoes, I tried a couple of runs with them and while some worked for daily runs, they couldn’t cut it when it came to distance running.

After lots of tries, I found a pair that was extremely light and had just the right angle -- also a bit flat-footed so it’s really stable. It feels like I’m wearing nothing on my feet whenever I run with them!

Now, what do my shoes have to do with my business principles? The point of this is just to emphasize that trial and error is so crucial - one of the most crucial, in fact - when it comes to success.

Don’t settle for something that’s mediocre or “just fine” - that’s a surefire way for your business to flop. Whatever you offer, whatever you sell, the point is quality comes first.

All the skills I have now are self-taught. So many people I’ve talked to and taught can’t believe it when I tell them I never went to business school. I just tried different ways to achieve my goals and if they didn’t work, I’d keep trying to find a way that did.

Until you find something that you will be 100% confident in and passionate about, keep trying: it will be really worth it once you get there!

2) Commit to what works.

After I found that perfect pair of running shoes, I wore them for every serious run until it got a hole in it. Eventually, it gave out, of course, but you know what I did? I bought the exact same pair of shoes later on!

When you find something that works, you’ve got to commit everything you have - your time, skills, and resources - to it! This seems obvious, but you won’t believe how many times I’ve come across people who just don’t have this attribute.

I’ve had my business for a decade now, and I only achieved the kind of success I wanted seven years in! I really do have this crazy persistence that just works for the ebbs and flows of the business. So think about how much time and sacrifices you’re willing to dedicate to one particular pursuit.

Of course, times change: things that worked before may not work in the future and you have to stay relevant in order to keep your business running.

But once this happens, you’re already equipped with so many experiences and lessons that you know how to approach even the most drastic changes. You’ll know how your business works at the very core so you can adjust without breaking a sweat.

Yes, you do have to adapt, but you can still apply what you know and what you’ve learned while rolling with changes.

Perseverance and commitment combined with adaptability: develop these skills as an entrepreneur, and I guarantee you’ll have the success you’ve always wanted!

3) Stick to what you believe and find fulfillment in.

I did web design for a couple of years and I was really successful at it. My business then brought in a lot of money at a steady pace, so it was quite profitable.

After a while, though, I realized it really was just a profit center for me. It wasn’t accomplishing the goals I set out for it.

It’s not enough to have a cash cow; you need to find something that fulfills your purpose. Otherwise, you won’t be able to really stick with it the way you should. This almost always leads to eventual failure, too.

So if you think you’ve achieved a good level of success but you always feel that nagging sensation that it isn’t enough, ask yourself: am I fulfilled? Am I happy with my achievements? Sometimes achievements can look like purpose when they’re not.

It’s important to persevere and keep trying, but you’ve also got to find a limit for a way or a dream that just isn’t for you.

Then you’ll have the freedom to find something you can give your whole heart to! This actually ensures you have better, long-term success in your business life and your personal life.

How well you succeed in entrepreneurship is entirely up to you! You have full control over how much you commit to your pursuits, so breathe in and take the leap!
