My Eldest Uncle's American Dream Completed
Motivational Monday-“The American Dream”
?
What does it mean to have and achieve the American Dream?? This answer varies for me personally, but for my eldest uncle, it means something vasty different.? During the 1970s, my eldest uncle came to American to find a new opportunity in life.? He found it right away with landscaping, and gardening.?
?
His first boss admired my uncle’s “hard work” each day when fixing a garden, cutting the grass, and learning each day. The attention in detail my uncle had in seeing the difference flowers, and ways to perfect a garden remains his greatest skill to this day. His energy in waking up at 4:00am in the morning, taking the public bus, and eating a pastry (with coffee) never changed.? I always ask my uncle about his “4:00am habit”, and he told me, “It became routine.”
?
As my uncle’s journey in landscaping progressed, his body eventually fails.? This is part of life, and eventually, he retired.? To say he fulfilled his own version of American Dream is an idea that has been rooted in him since he was young.? He always had the drive, the will power, the motivation, the energy to look forward, and “mow the lawn.”
?
I always believed ?his job was a type of therapy to him.?

He also paved the way for me, and gave my own drive, will, and determination to “work hard” each day.
The greatest memory is him showing me how to solve multiplication tables using “mental math.”? I cherish those memories each day, and for him helping me understand numbers more each day.
?
My other favorite quote from him is, “Read and write something every day because I did not have the opportunity to learn these two things ever.”
?
He will always be a part loving uncle, and “a part loving father” too.

My uncle……enjoy your life....
