My Dynamic Career - David Doy

Hi,

I’m David and I’ve been with the Town since 2018. My substantive role is the Manager of Place Planning, but more recently, I’ve been acting as the Chief Executive Officer in a shared capacity with Natalie Martin Goode .

The Place Planning team is the primary strategic unit of the Town, responsible for Strategic Town Planning, Transport Planning, Public Open Space Planning, Social Infrastructure Planning, Economic Development, and Urban Forest Planning. As the Acting Chief Executive Officer, I lead the operations of the Town and serve as the primary interface with the Town’s Elected Member group.

I was inspired to join the Town because it is a fantastic place! Located in Perth’s inner east, it has a great main street and a fascinating mix of neighbourhoods and businesses. Victoria Park is also a progressive and brave organisation with great people.

I realised I enjoyed working here on my second day. I felt so welcomed, and people were genuinely excited that I had joined. The Town has a diverse range of projects, from big State Government initiatives where we are key partners, to interesting private/public partnerships and impactful programs of work. This diversity requires all-round thinking and a resourceful, open mindset, which is a real challenge but also highly enjoyable.

To overcome these challenges, I’ve embraced a brave, hard-working approach, maintaining a ‘what is possible’ mindset and relying on a great team of people. Everything we do is as a team effort.

My values align well with my job. As a dad with two young boys, my family is my number one priority. I’m able to schedule my workday to handle school logistics, support my wife’s career, and still get my work done. The Town’s caring and flexible culture supports this balance, while also being committed to delivering great outcomes for the community and striving for best practice in all we do.

I’ve developed my leadership skills significantly during my time at the Town, thanks to a progressive and caring environment, targeted leadership training and coaching, and various acting experiences in executive roles. My role is crucial for the future of the Town, contributing to the quality of life for the community, economic prosperity, and the wellbeing of the local environment.

Looking forward, I’m excited about the future. The Town continues to punch above its weight with clear strategies guiding our path. We take a progressive and brave approach, aren’t afraid to take risks, and maintain a supportive and flexible culture
