My Dream Job | Eunice Oshiguwa
By Eunice Oshiguwa
Sometimes I wish life was a video game where you have multiple lives, and you could try out different careers. Maybe in one life, you’re an author weaving stories and in another, you’re a therapist listening to the experiences that have led this person to you and giving them the tools to navigate their world. I would love to try my hand at many things but the careers I find myself stuck on are Historian and Screenwriter.
I’ve always been into drama, and I’m always writing something so wanting to be a Screenwriter is an obvious choice. I would love to write for a big show that people watch on the weekend as a treat, a break from their lives and immersion into another’s. To build worlds, birth stories and have them captured and broadcasted is my dream. To see my words translated into moving images would be so cool.
Being a Historian would be equally as interesting and rewarding. I studied History at university, so it’s no surprise that being a Historian is one of my dream jobs. I just think that Historians are so smart and perceptive. I am particularly interested in social history, learning about people’s lived experiences, specifically those of oppressed groups. There is something really special to me about the preservation and learning of a culture and a people that is done through history which allows us to hear voices from the past. I will probably go back to university at some point, maybe in my 30s, to get my master’s.
A historian consulting on a film, that might be the sweet spot, but until then I will tell the stories of the wonderful things that go on at my schools, a caption and an image at a time.
