Disruptive Banter at Cosmopolitan with Editor in Chief Farrah Storr
Q: You have a magazine Cosmopolitan, an iconic global brand that’s lost market dominance, sparkle and readership, so what do you do?
A: You appoint the Best Woman for the Job as Editor in Chief, someone with fire, fresh ideas a genuine disruptor who is not afraid to press the reset button.
Earlier this week I was delighted to meet and interview Farrah Storr, Editor in Chief at Cosmopolitan UK for my TV chat show Late Night Banter. In 3 years Farrah has reinvented this established women’s magazine making it relevant to today’s younger woman as well as most regular diehard Cosmo readers. In such a relatively short time, Farrah has grown readership to over 10 million taking Cosmo back to the No1 spot, and all because she had the guts and courage to sacrifice many of the sacred cows that previous editors wouldn’t have dreamed of changing.
It was fascinating chat with a genuine disruptor and high praise indeed when she said, “Well Del you’re a disruptor as your show is challenging norms and pushing the envelope by taking the Sikh Channel into totally new unchartered areas, and winning new viewers”. She even extended me the offer of my photo in Cosmo, alas not on the cover and thankfully there are no centrefold guys these days otherwise she’d lose 10 million readers overnight, I think she was thinking near the back of the magazine next to an apology, lol.
Outside of disruptive behaviours we chatted about, gonzo journalism, modest fashion, body image, plus sized models, diversity, inclusivity, Asian heritage and underage sneaking into The Hacienda. Farrah said she had thoroughly enjoyed the banter and was really looking forward to seeing the show when it airs on the Sikh Channel in July – me too.
