My daily work-life being Mobile-Only

My day starts with an alarm (Telegraph Road - Dire Straits) on my smartphone at 8h30. I like to take my time so I begin my day of work in bed with the amazing Samsung Z Fold 3. The foldable display offers enough comfort to read & write emails, consult your agenda at the same time and answer the messages on whatsapp. After half an hour of productive work in bed, I shower, take a breakfast and have my first calls between 9h00 and 10h00. Once everything is done, I take my EV motobike for 20 minutes to go to the office. The bag I always carry with me is quiet light.

What's in my bag

Here is the content of my bag:

-x1 MiraBook lapdock for productivity work

-x1 Remarkable 2 for notes

-x1 MiraLink in case I need to connect to display for a quick presentation or just to entertain at the hotel

-x1 Sony Headset for music and calls

-x1 External power bank to add autonomy to my MiraBook or my phone

-x3 Stands for smartphones including a Phoneside, some can be used with the MiraBook

Then I have miscellaneous stuff like my business cards, perfume, or painkillers in case there is someone to save. The great thing about having a MiraBook in your bag is that you don't have to pull it out when you arrive to work. Arriving at my desk I just connect my smartphone to the available MiraDock. I remember a few years ago when I was working at Alcatel and we had these big HP Elitepro laptops. It was exhausting to carry 1.5KG on your back but the pain was extended when you had to pull it out of your bag and wait 1 minute for it to boot properly. I feel like I save a lot of time and energy just by docking my Samsung phone to the MiraDock.

My daily desk setup

I am working on two different environment but both are kind of complementary. The first one is the Android operating system using Samsung DeX (Desktop Experience feature). I use this system as a thin client to connect to a VDI service (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure), in other words, Windows in the cloud. I use Android DeX to work in places where there is no internet so I am forced to use the local OS, mostly the train or the plane. Here is a list of tasks I can accomplish with DeX only:

-Read & write emails using Gmail in the web browser

-Browse the web in general (Linkedin, searches, Asana, CRM etc...)

-Write messages on Whatsapp/Telegram/Kakao/Messenger...

-Video conferences over Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or equivalent

-Powerpoint presentations during external meetings

-Regular phone calls

But then for true content creation I use Windows in the cloud for now. One amazing feature is that I can have Windows OS on the main big display and keep my Android phone on the side screen of my phone with the possibility to interact with it with the same mouse. It's like I can access both worlds from the same keyboard/mouse. The way I take advantage of these is having my productive work on the main screen and whatsapp, spotify or another app open on the phone. Where being mobile only becomes also very powerful is when you need to go to the meeting room.

Miraxess Meeting room

I undock my phone from my desk MiraDock, I use the NFC tag to connect to the speakerphone in the meeting room, I cast DeX to the TV, switch ON the keyboard/Mouse and that's it, ready to do a presentation. I would admit that to have a clean mobile-only experience you would need a range of accessories to complete the experience on-demand, however, it can sometimes be the same with a traditional laptop with all the adapators and diverse peripherals.

80% of the MiraTeam already works in mobile-only because it is important for us to use the tools we promote everyday, it is also essential to develop a certain expertise and lastly because we believe the world would be better in mobile-only so we want to show the example.

@Christian Planas with his MiraDock

One of the most significant advantages of this mobile-only lifestyle is the cost-effectiveness it offers. With the affordability of mobile devices, the financial burden of acquiring expensive hardware has been lifted. This accessibility empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that technology is not a luxury limited to the privileged few, but a tool for all.

Convenience has become an integral part of my life through the mobile-only approach. The portability of smartphones has revolutionized the way I engage with the digital realm. I can effortlessly stay connected, work efficiently, and engage in various activities without being tied down to a desk as a true nomad worker.

@Julietta with her MiraDock

I finish my day nearly at 19h30 - 20h just by picking up my phone and put it in my pocket for more adventures ;)

Now let me know in the comment section what is refraining you from trying mobile-only or what has been your experience so far with it. Stay tuned for more content.

Yanis Anteur I love the article! Being mobile only is awesome! As you know I have been living this lifestyle for 30years! Started with a HP95LX. The Z Fold is the perfect device for this life I love my Z Fold 4 and as we discussed we run JustCharterIt from #SamsungDeX

Great to hear about your mobile-only lifestyle, Yanis! It's inspiring to see how you've optimized your work setup for productivity and convenience. The Samsung Z Fold 3 sounds like an amazing device for starting your day with work in bed. The MiraBook lapdock and Remarkable 2 are excellent additions to your bag, providing versatility and efficiency. I completely agree with you on the time-saving benefits of docking your phone to the MiraDock. It's incredible how technology has evolved to offer lightweight, powerful solutions compared to the cumbersome laptops of the past. The ability to seamlessly switch between Android and Windows operating systems enhances productivity and allows for true content creation.
