My Customer is my why!

As a business owner, entreprenuer or just a straight out human being we tend to ask ourselves:

What is my WHY? Why do I get up every morning? Why do I set out my day with the book filled with tasks? Or sometimes we just don't have the answer to that question!

Today my customer @ilujaruca reconfirmed my WHY. Why I started a Jamaican Rum Cake business at the heat of a pandemic in my kitchen with floods of memories of my youth.

I recieved this message from a customer today and wanted to share it with you. It's her life experience at the moment but I remember when they purchased the 1st cake back in 2020 and it was because they wanted to remind their mom of her times back home in Panama as they couldnt see her due to the lockdowns.

Here is what they wrote: - This was in response to me checking in on her. #customercare

"Okay good. Yes my mom did passed away, she was buried the day after Thanksgiving. We're trying our best to take things one day at a time. Me and my sister is who are feeling the pain the most because we both took care of our mother she lived with us and we took her to every place we go and the pain we have is very hurting since we was planning on doing her 92 birthday as a family reunion next year 2022 it was put on hold due to the pandemic in 2021. We had bought things in advance for the Event I spent a lot of money I even renewed her passport was getting ready to take her back home for a visit to Panama in January of 2022. But God had other plans for her., I've learned you can never plan for tomorrow because it isn't promise to anyone. I really appreciate your concern. Thank you and may God continue to Bless you and Happy holidays to you and your love ones"

My responses:

"Hi Yolanda, Firstly I send my condolences to you and the family during these times. I would like to also say that you and your sister are amazing human beings and although your attempts to plan for next year didnt come to past, im pleased that she was around you both during her lasts days as that means so much. Her memories are not gone so maybe an idea could be that you turn the trip or the reunion to a memorial celebration of her life and what a blessing she means to you and those that knew her.

Once again my prayers are with you all and thank you so much for sharing this with me as it means alot. All the best and dont hesitate to keep in touch okay".

Her response:

"Yes, I really appreciate the kind words Selina is a healing process and God is keeping us strong as the day goes by all who knew her shared so many good memories and yes we had a celebration after the reception at a family house we did exactly what she would have wanted dancing, singing and having a family bonding which doesn't happens our family is big and everyone lives in different States so we don't see each other nor call each other so this was really a great time for gathering and enjoying the moment with each other it was really nice with her in our hearts. I will definitely keep in touch with you and buy your delicious Rum Cake when I can. Is the best Fruit Rum Cake I've ever eaten. Take care my friend. ? Have a Happy Holidays ??"

I kid you not, when I get reviews and messages from customers that confirm the reason why I started this business in the first place, its fuel that allows me to know that in these trying times we just need to cherish the moments we have, the memories we can create and the experiences we can explore. These aren't just any Rum cakes, these are rum cakes that are attached to legacy, memories old and memories we create in moments that are new.

My vision is that JARUCA becomes a household name supporting our loved ones and keeping us connected with memories, one slice at a time.
