My crippling fear of visibility

I’ll never forget my first attempt at a video.

It was July 2015 and I wanted to create a welcome video for my new Facebook business page.

I started recording it with bright eyes and flushed cheeks ??around 4pm.

I’d spent all day writing out my script and finding the right positioning, perching my lap-top precariously on a pile of books so I could stand up.

I was ready.

After about 28 takes (barely getting past the greeting “Hi!” “Hey guys!” “Hullooo!” “Hallo!” “Yo!” “Whatsup?!”) ??

I decided to shake my body, take some deep breaths, and pour myself a little confidence booster ??. Weeeell, it was almost 5pm.

I resumed recording again.

By 8pm I had recorded the most dismal welcome video in the history of welcome videos ??

Bloodshot eyes, skin drained of colour and the spark fizzled out (doused by the wine!) I was bitterly disappointed in myself and I went into hiding again ??(deleting that awful welcome video)

It took me months to show my face on camera again.

This time something had shifted.

I was recording videos twice, sometimes 3 times a day. I was still doing lots of takes each time but I was suddenly so inspired and the content was just flowing through me and I was loving putting it out there ????

People started to notice and I started to get clients ??

People believed that I was naturally confident on camera, a brand expert, Whitney Mullings, referred to my videos as “my brand hack” (she obvs never knew about that first experience!

So what was the thing that shifted?

In the months between the Welcome-Video gate and my re-emergence, I’d 100% connected to my niche and my ideal client avatar.

I felt completely aligned in my message and my mission.

Confusion breeds fear. We feel vulnerable to judgment and criticism when we're not grounded and clear in our message.

But when we’re speaking from our truth and we feel passionate about the message we have to share, a new confidence rises up.

You can cut through the noise in your head because you know that your ideal clients are struggling and you are the one who can help them.

Your mission becomes greater than you and as a result, you worry less about criticism and judgment from others.

I see it time and time again, as my clients unleash their superpower and master their message, their fears of visibility dissipate, and they become unstoppable!
