The recent attack on Punjabi laborers in Balochistan has deeply affected the nation. The terrorists targeted these innocent workers based on their ethnic identity, sparking outrage among Punjabi intellectuals. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the incident and further escalated tensions by making statements against the Punjab, the armed forces and neighbouring friends of Pakistan. This situation threatens to strain relations between the people of Punjab and Balochistan.
Many Punjabi intellectuals expressed anger not only towards the terrorists but also towards Baloch political and social activists. However, it is essential to differentiate between those who engage in violence and those who strive for their rights peacefully. The 1973 Constitution holds a central place in Pakistan’s constitutional history, embodying the principles of federalism, democracy, and the rule of law. The recent incident not only fuels violence but also undermines the principles of constitutionalism.
If we allow anger to lead us into associating all Baloch political activities with the actions of a few terrorists, we risk playing into the hands of those who seek to divide us. In these challenging times, it is crucial to adopt peace, tolerance, and constitutional methods to isolate the terrorists and work towards peaceful solutions. Preserving the sacrifices made for the protection of the Constitution and avoiding emotional responses is vital to defeating the internal and external enemies of Pakistan.
