Reenactors have a great sense of the absurd. In my college paper cartoon, my tank was a German Panzer.

My College Cartoon got pulled for bad poetry

I love this photo. It reminds me of something that happened to me in college.

At the?University of Illinois at Chicago, I worked on the college paper called?the Illini.?This was the northern campus to the Champaign Urbana campus downstate. The paper was not radical - just weird - more of a private enterprise operated by a company located just off campus. It was the late 70s…need I say more? The editor in chief (a student) was running the current marijuana prices in the paper. How in God's name he got away with it for so long, until I saw him, over dinner with my parents, doing the?PERP WALK?on TV, out of a Chicago Police Station.

Definition to my overseas friends: this is where the suspects is walked out of the police station in handcuffs in front of the local TV News.

Anyway, the paper did all sorts of stuff, including letting their resident cartoonist have a free rein doing a cartoon strip.

For five weeks, I told the tale of a German Panzer?showing up in Ancient Rome. You know, typical time travel stuff…a?'WHAT IF'?sort of approach. In my story, legion after legion is sent against the fire breathing monster. Thousands of brave Roman soldiers die from machine gun fire and rounds from the monster. Of course, eventually the ammo runs out and the Charybdis is lured onto a shaky bridge, sending it plummeting into a river. The surviving German Soldiers were sent to the arena. The weekly strips were hard to do, but what it made it more ridiculous were the captions I TRIED to compose in?iambic pentameter, and before you all tell me the Romans did not compose in?iambic pentameter, but in?Elegiac couplets, the attempt to tell the tale of the Charybdis that begins the prosecution of the Christians due to the Iron Cross on the side of the turrent, met a glorious end.

YES, I WAS PULLED FROM THE PAPER DUE TO BAD POETRY.

Here's the description:

Could an MEU bring down the Roman Empire?

Marine expeditionary units are the smallest air-ground task forces in the United States Fleet Marine Force. Each MEU is an expeditionary quick reaction force, deployed and ready for immediate response to any crisis, whether it be natural disaster or combat missions.

Rob Cain Interviews the screenwriter James Erwin who wrote a story on the popular website REDIT. It gained such popularity that it was purchased by a movie company. This is an odd and fanciful story where a guy lets his imagination fly on a social media site and gets called by Hollywood.

The interview includes an interview with Gunny Sergeant "Red" Millis who provides insight into the capabilities of a Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Both screen writer and Marine answer the question,?"Can a MEU beat the Rome Empire?"

Yes, a guy sold a movie script based on a REDIT story he composed on line.
