It takes all kinds to make a world and believe it or not, there are more horse’s asses than there are horses. As if you don’t know. I make cold calls too and some times I get a ‘Jackass’ on the phone. It happened again this morning, I had another ‘Jackass prospect' on the phone. Hee-Haw - Hee-Haw!?
What’s a ‘Jackass’? People in general. These days people seem more aggravated and twisted, especially sales prospects because they get so many calls. Not your fault or mine, but we have a job to do. Besides, if the ‘Jackass prospects’ had sense enough to call us, then we wouldn’t have to call them. So it’s their fault…?
There are some sales prospects that turn into a Jackass for practically no reason at all, other than you called. So… you’ve got to be ready to handle the 'Jackass prospect' on all your cold calls.?
1st Tip #1: Don’t get defensive with the ‘Jackass’
When you get a ‘Jackass prospect’ on the phone, you can tell instantly by the tone of their voice and their whole demeanor. They usually start things off with a gruff sounding question like, “How can I help you”?? or “How’d you get my number?” This is how the ‘Jackass prospect’ takes control of the call away from you, and puts you on the defensive to come with the right answer. That’s what they’re waiting for. When you answer back in the form of a sales pitch that’s when the ‘Jackass prospect’ goes to work on you. They engage in dialogue designed to take their woes and frustration out on you. It’s a power trip for them. (I mentioned in previous posts that the first person to ask a question in any conversation typically controls 51% of the course and direction the conversation takes.?
Tip #2: Be the first to ask a question
Back to our story… I called my ‘Jackass prospect’ out of a courtesy - I had a sales lead for him. Apparently, he got up on the wrong side of the bed, and began giving me a hard time with his condescending dialogue right out of the gate. Sensing the ‘Jackass prospect’ was about to ‘kick’ me, I quickly got to the point and explained the relevance of my call, but this ‘Jackass prospect’ would have none of it. Things went downhill from there. After a few minutes of him breaking my ‘pelotas’, he told me in a more condescending tone that I had 30-seconds to talk. That was it for me. BYE-BYE
Tip#3: “The best cold call you’ll ever make is the cold call you can walk away from”
Having reached my breaking point, I simply said, “Thanks for taking my call - have a good day” then I hung up. Felt good too. Whenever you have a ‘Jackass prospect’ on the phone, keep in mind you have a right to make the call, and sometimes people don’t like it. There are more horse’s asses than there are horses! Stay cool, calm and collected, and don’t be scared when you have a ‘Jackass prospect’ on the phone. The ‘Jackass sales prospect’ isn’t worth it. Put up with as much abuse as you’re willing to take and then call ‘the game’ like I did saying, “Thanks for taking my call - and have a nice day”. You’ll feel better for it I guarantee. HEE-Haw. HEE-Haw!

1 个月Isn't it ironic when someone gives you a hard time for cold calling, yet they work for a company where their sales team does the exact same thing? Classic case of 'what’s good for the goose ISN'T good for the gander.
