My client has no interest in photography... Excellent!

Let me explain:

It's very satisfying when your work is appreciated. When someone recognises that you've developed skills over many years that allow you to make what you do look pretty much straight-forward. And of course, that goes for all kinds of skill-sets, interests and expertise.

Photographers are creative folk and generally very passionate about what they do. (Hence, a little recognition goes a long way!).

Now although I'm more than happy to answer questions for clients about how I do what I do, what settings I use, or the equipment I employ, it can also be refreshing when a client has no interest at all in how I produce photographs for them! (Now let's face it, they wouldn't be clients if they didn't appreciate how photographs can benefit them, but that's not what I'm talking about here).

When I work with people who really don't care about the photography process, it's strange how that attitude helps me concentrate solely on the benefits of my photography to them. It forces me to look way beyond the technical stuff and think about what the photographs I take will do for my clients. Now don't get me wrong, that's how I approach commercial shoots anyway but when a client shows little or no interest in my "how/why/what", it makes me think; "Well why would you?"! Let's just get to the results stage and start reaping the benefits - quite right, too!!

I love the occasional clear reminder that we're all different, with different views, interests and skills and we shouldn't get too hung up on technicalities. Results are what really matter - and we can always "super-study" more about our chosen field when we're on our own! (I find that friends are easier to come by that way, too ??).

I am not that fussed whether they are interested in what I have to do as long as they appreciate the results
