Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys

Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys

This week was a little strange, there were two news cycles, one before Tuesday and one after Tuesday. Given that, here’s my best outline and recap of headlines and interesting news given the defining news on Tuesday.

Though today’s most interesting or rather surprising headline “Did they catch the monkeys?”

Before Tuesday…

The Wall Street Journal featured a few defining images of the 2024 election. New York Times tech workers are on strike, one day before the election, taking to a picket line outside of the newspaper’s offices and asking readers not to cross their “digital picket lines. It’s safe to say most Americans are facing one if not two strong emotions, anxiety and fear. When is it safe to make the call? Axios shares insights into how media desks report decisions. And sometimes amid all the noise, silence is golden, kudos to Calm.

We talk a lot about storytelling in our profession – I’m not talking about earnings and numbers but stories that involve people, emotions, and consequences. New York Magazine did a great job capturing the impact of climate change on our youth.

New York Times reporter Kashmir Hill conducted a first-person experiment and let A.I. take over her life and decisions, read what happened. This feels like a “Yes Day” gone sideways.

Turns out Americans are spending money they don’t have to deal with stress (it's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me) — and the election is a big source of that anxiety (see above article on anxiety and fear).

Post Tuesday,

Donald Trump was elected the 47th President of the United States. In addition to a shift in the White House, we’ll also see a shift in the Senate. While Elon, was not a candidate many are speculating what a Trump win means for him.

History was made in the 2024 election thanks to Delaware’s Sarah McBride. McBride is now officially the first openly transgender person to be elected to the U.S. Congress.

The tech industry is one that will likely see the?most immediate impact as many speculate now President Trump will remove Lina Khan as head of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The new administration is expected to reshape a wide policies ranging from the environment to technology and corporate taxes.

Donald Trump once worked to cut off access to TikTok. However, as the January ban looms, he could be key to keeping the platform operating as usual in the U.S.

While women’s issues weren’t the only thing on the “ballot” this week it was a big one, what should women know now.

Some non-Trump news, COP29 kicking off next week in Baku, Azerbaijan has a central goal: to agree on how much money should go each year to helping developing countries cope with climate-related costs.
