After my wife passed away, i continued my studies of Theology and Poetry and religious old literature. During this time i acquired and rebound very old books for my studies.
An opportunity arose to design a chapel, with a friend who alo lost hos wife to cancer.
This is the result, it is now a cloister.
The goal was to capture the emblematic charm and truth of the first century church, which i has been studying.
So i incorporated those design elements in my instructions to the Architect. As you can see, he captured them flawlessly.
The Rotunda would have beautiful wood carvings of the passion of Christ, which i found from a church that was modernizing.
The beautiful stained glass windows i found from churches that were being torn down, and so we were able to save them. They are Meyer of Munich, Tiffany.
Here you see the classic chapel design, there are two angels above the dorrway.
The meeting area is surrounded by French doors that can be opened up hinge to hinge side on nice evenings for open air services both inside and outside, as in the tradition of old mansions sun rooms facing out to a central veranda for services in front of the statues. They stand in a pol, with a small river of running water to an ancient baptismal font, which of course is symbolic of the river of life, the living water of Christ.
Entering from the rear is a hallway with baptismal water running in troughs at waist height and scripture inscribed on the walls., emblematic of the ancient Covenant, the walk of death, which is emblematic of entering into the covenant of salvation, as a pledge before God, to keep the covenant at all costs even at the cost of one;s Life, which is the price of the Cross of Christ and our cross.. CRUX SANCTA SIT MIHI LUX. This allows a time of personal preparation before entering the hall of the Passion of Christ.
I found an old pipe organ for the interior and had an organ console loft built into the rear of the Narthex and above that the pipe rack.
During the last outpouring of the holy Spirit, i would attend the Norbertine Abbey prayer meetings on Friday night. We always had a beautiful time of everyone praying in the Spirit with the pipe organ accompanyment, as lead by the Holy Spirit, rather than by an composition of man. So this is an important aspect od re capturing the out pouring of the Holy Spirit, which is little understood today.
Here we see the central part of our faith. The station of the cross will hang on the walls in each niche, with a kneeler in front of each one and meditation benches in the center. This is the true source of our faith and salvation.. the agony of Christ, the only begotten Son of God The room is specified to be larger than is showing here. A statue of the risen Christ is correctly specified to be in the central location, this was an early rendering.
Here you see the Narthex, with a statue of Saint Michael, his sword poised above the head of satan, who has been bound in chains, forged in the Blood of Christ.
This is the victory, at the other end is the Altar, with Crucifix, which is the price paid for the victory.
These are the emblems of all faiths and denominations.
