Submitted to GLOBAL POETRY SHOWCASE for WORLD VALUES DAY (20th October 2022). THEME: VALUES FOR COMMUNITY
"My CFCs"
They are not CFCs that let the ozone bore
But my Community Fridge Colleagues compassionate to the core
Availing surplus food for families locally
Helping the environment globally.
Surplus food is shared not thrown
So there is less needing to be grown
Setting up stalls in community hall
Creating an atmosphere to welcome all.
?
Some is brought to us by growers
But most we collect from shops
Sorting it all by use by date
Before we open our hall gate.
?
Smiles and laughter are the norm
When the queues start to form
Children run to swings and slide
Coming back to their parents’ side.
?
We are not foodbank but encourage all
Those in need and those who can take
Lastly volunteers to help and bridge
Using what’s within our fridge.
?
Leftovers are taken to animal farms
And badly soiled to compost barns
Thereby caring for nature around
Conditioning soil of mother ground.
?
Handling food at the chain’s very end
With much resource and energy spent
Passionate to serve with no expectation
This is what I call love presentation.
